My Brink Suggestions

(tzod462) #1

Firstly, let me say that I’m loving the game. Unlike the plethora of people that were expecting CoD, I actually am a fan of Splash Damage, and know exactly the sorts of games they make (see: W:ET, QW:ET). That said, I knew this would be a completely incredible team-based multiplayer game, with no uber cinematic interactive movie experience (see: CoD campaigns), So, I’m sorry to those of you that feel “ripped off” or that this game falters because of your own ignorance.

Now that that is out of the way, the game does have its problems. I’m quite sure most of what I’m about to say is well-known, but I’m simply making a list of a couple of bugs and a suggestion.

The audio cutting out. Definitely should be high on the fix priority list.
The connection problems when it comes to joining your friends Campaign servers or Challenge servers. Currently it seems as though doing coop Challenges is simply impossible. Joining a Campaign with friends seems a crap-shoot at best. This should also be high on the priority list.
Bots will sometimes be invisible.

The objective wheel can be pretty misleading. It seems as though “Guard X Objective” is used regardless of whether you actually need to guard it (guard = defend…) or attack. I really hope you guys implement a fix for this and make the Objective Wheel more easily understood. While this doesn’t matter once a player is accustomed to all of the maps and objectives, this is a big thing to help new characters (especially if they’re brand new to objective based games in general) not be overwhelmed, and downright misinformed. Seeing the wheel tell me to guard a door that I’m supposed to blow up is just irritating, and needlessly confusing. Seems like this should be an easy fix.

I’ll end by saying again, I’m having a blast. This game definitely seems to have moved closer to W:ET as opposed to the direction QW:ET was going, and I have no complaints. I’m sick of seeing the game get negativity from people who were just too ignorant to know what it was they were buying. And all of the reviews that knock the game for ridiculous things such as “needing to switch classes too frequently” etc. These idiots need to just go back to the mindless Deathmatches of CoD and leave the real team-based objective gameplay to players who can handle it.

Will I catch a ban here? Who’s to say…but I thought I would post it directly to the source (SD) instead of via Bethesda. I was genuinely surprised considering I was essentially sticking up for the game, and saying things much more politely than 90% of the people bashing the game are…

(tokamak) #2

Don’t agree with all of it but seems perfectly reasonable to me.

(KAS--Will) #3

Doesn’t even seem like your complaining… but sounds like your starting a hate thread maybe? IDK… I didn’t feel like reading a novel right now…

(hamstein) #4

Sound is either laggy, my heaphones suck or it’s supposed to I wouldn’t know.

Using a proxy atm, so can’t answer the connection issues.

Bot thing, is that an ATI problem?

Guard objectives mean they want you to guard it, if I’m an engineer I’ll guard the door till my soldier makes it go boom…think that’s the idea. Though maybe “assault the door” would work better?

BTW, good job with the complaints, nice to hear actual like…constructive criticism I guess you’d say, rather than just ripping apart the game,

(KAS--Will) #5

I’ll second that. Thanks 1st post for being an actual human being and not a troll.

(Codine) #6

I’m enjoying the game too but I REALLY REALLY REALLY hate the 1 button for everything mechanic. I’ve been screwed over so many times because I couldn’t throw a syringe to res somebody since they weren’t highlighted when I was spamming f. The game was supposed to be fast and throwing a syringe was the method to capitalize on this, but in my experience you have to slow down and make sure you actually “lock on” to them so they can get back up.

The only method was so much better AND faster than this crap shoot right now.

btw I’m enjoying the game.

(KAS--Will) #7

Yeah, I noticed that too… like several times today, I’ve tried to resupply my teammates, but ended up interacting with the command post… but then again, no need to give them ammo if it’s automatically refilled at a command station… XD

Since when did a few short paragraphs become a novel? You’re on a forum, where the primary mode of communication is text, you’re going to have to make a little more effort than skimming the two word answers if you want to make a positive contribution.

I’d apologies for the parental tone, but I’ve a feeling you’re used to it.

OP, despite all the negativity I’m still really excited about getting my copy on Friday. All the objective criticism such as popping graphics, lag, and sound issues seem to be patchable and everything I’m reading about the play seems to be exactly what I was hoping for from SD.

It is a little disappointing the product wasn’t closer to perfection in a technical sense on launch, and I’d be curious to see how the reviews would have turned out had the game had no faults in this regard.

Also, would have liked a strong campaign as it was touted for a while as a seamless SP/MP experience, so much so that it got me and my friends thinking that the SP experience would be up to par. As I knew SD were so strong with their MP aspects, putting so much focus on the SP being great in the previews led most of us to believe that both would be awesome experiences.

Saying that, Brink was /always/ going to be about the MP. So, really, all I ever wanted deep down was a technically great game with brilliant gameplay. If they can smooth out the technical issues asap, then (from what I’ve read/seen/heard) the game should find its feet over the coming weeks and carve a niche.

Here’s hoping.

It definitely is patchable everything everyone is mentioning can be fixed through a patch which is the good thing but i’m not sure about adding things like a lobby so on and so forth can be patched in

(fearlessfox) #10

Didn’t LFD patch in a new lobby system after release? I’m no tech expert, but I think it can be done.

(SpawnTDK) #11

i don’t think so. forget bethesda, the arrogant snake still needs to learn (or needs to learn again) how hard reality can be.

Got to thank console games for that. :frowning:

(Jess Alon) #13

If you’re on the attack it’s just the objective icon. If you’re defending the objective. There’s a little circular thing showing that you need to guard that objective to keep the other team from finishing it. I know it’s kind of subtle but it’s there.

(hailey) #14

ya 1 button system feels so consoley its not even funny :frowning: I hate it so much

(Shotgun Surgeon) #15

The reviews would still be the same. There’s complains about “too much teamwork” and “not enough lone-wolfing.” Obviously, people want to just jump around walls and killing everything they see (literally, as in they don’t have to aim like in COD).

If it wasn’t for the technical problems, the game still would be received the same way. Fortunately for us, that means the people that do stick it out are those who are all about teamwork.

(Dr.Ricktofen) #16

You got banned for-- let me guess…FLAMING? I got perma banned fot calling someone ignoreant on the beth forums, was there for like a year, posted ALOT, helped alot of people, and they ban me.

Now i cannot acess the site at all, not even for technical support.

SD forums are way better, mods dont feel like Gods here and ban for small and stupid things.

(ibivibiv) #17

I came here after being in Bethesda forums. They seem to be hyper-forum-golden-rule-snobs over there. I even saw a mod lock a thread for a guy talking about how excited he was for the game to be released. They locked it and said he should have posted it somewhere else and that there are tons of “I am so excited” threads and are unnecessary. Wow, way to alienate a fan there Bethesda. I got my first and only thread locked, but then again I deserved it. I got sick of the COD elitists bagging on this game so I told them to pack up and go back and hang out in Nuketown all they want (in a much more “trollish” way). I have no idea if they banned me for it or not. Honestly don’t care. I just got fed up reading COD people expecting every game to be a copy of COD and bagging on this game for not letting them e-penis there way through cyberspace. Your post looks WAY more in bounds than mine was. Oh hey and I just went to check for fun… no ban. Hmmmm. Oh well this forum seems way more useful and fun.

(09wejg-02394jg) #18

Banned from Bethesda forums for posting this…

just when you think your opinion of a company can’t really drop any further…

(trollface) #19

Sorry i’m with bethesda on this.
I’m glad they banned you, they probably had a good reason since you started your post here by calling CoD players ignorant kiddies.

(ibivibiv) #20

Hey it is mindless compared to this game, you have to admit it. If you spawn and run dead sprint into the fray on this title, you end up on your ass screaming “medic!!!”. You learn very quickly to seek cover and stay with the team. AWESOME. Once you learn that, you are good to go.

I think he, myself, and many others just are tired of hearing how terrible this game is from others only because they can’t play it like COD. And yes, if you try to play Brink like it is COD and then get mad because you die constantly and don’t get a lot of skill points, you are the definition of ignorant:

Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular: “ignorant of astronomy”

The fact that a lot of these people are playing this game like it should be COD (since all games should just be copies of COD right?), and then not bothering to learn what this game’s premise is about makes them:

“ignorant of Brink’s concept”

That isn’t saying they are bad, just that they are ignoring the nature of the game. I think his post is fine. Mine was straight up in your face go stuff it COD’ers. Can’t figure out why they banned him if they let mine fly.
