Hey I’m just wondering what program this game is going to have, and what I mean is like joining server and finding server, so like what program is going to be used to find server and join them, will it be built in to the game or is it going to be somthing like gamespy, so find servers and such.
I find this to be a big problem at times because if these programs are not well taking care of it will become somthing like Counter strike:source, that game owns but Steam the prgram it uses to find games ALWAYS messes up, it’s the buggest shit ever.
MultiPlayer Question
It’ll probably going on definately have an in-game server browser (which I hope is fairly robust…).
Xfire does a fine of finding servers albeit lacks advanced filters.
There’ll probably also be an ingame browser with plenty of filters!
I’ve always thought that id softwares in game browsers has been stable and functional but overly simplistic in features. I hope that will change in QW.
“stable and functional but overly simplistic in features”
Thats PERFECT, also IMO simple features make it easyer to use and less bugy.
Just look at how Steam turned out when it was first out It never had problems then when they added shit to it, like look at it now fucking one of the buggest peices of shit ever.
But ya if they can make it have alot of features and also make sure their aint no bugs that come along with it then hell ya.
I like Steam’s in-game server browser. Though to be fair, my CS session spans only once in a few months. I like the intuitive way the filters work to get gamers in-game as fast as possible.
If you think Steam’s in-game server browser is bad, look at BF2’s. That steaming pile of shit code. It never worked, period. And no plans to fix it too. It is clearly biased to use ranked servers which incidentally Gamespy has a leg in. And surprise! The browser code is by Gamespy.
That said, even ET’s browser wasn’t that good too. It lacks simple filter functionality. Most importantly (IMO) the need for country filter. Which is why I only use ASE for ET.
I hope for a reliable in-game browser that can handle and filter what will obviously be thousands (based on ET) of pub servers with some of the ASE type filters, since Yahoo bought ASE and did some questionable changes (mind you after MUCH complaining, they reversed) I’ve been leary of they data they have access to (ya, I’m paranoid). When Yahoo’s privacy policy changed from “your data is private” to “the list of people we sell your data to is private” I kinda lost interest, Google works for me
