MP Game modes?

(Shadowfrost) #1

Will there be any classic modes in Brink like say DeathMatch and CTF? Thanks.

(BioSnark) #2

no

10chars.

If you want a one place source of info about Brink, Fragworld.org has an excellent compendium with much if not all of the publically known info on Brink.

Brink will be a Team oriented, objective/mission based game. While you will get XP for killing the enemy you get more for actions that help your team directly. There will be times where you have to capture an objective, there is not a specific “CTF” mode. And there is certainly no Team Death Match. No in game tracking of K/D ratios either. (In case you wanted to know).
Edit: I guess Kills and Deaths may be tracked to some extent, and the specific info on that will be released later

I think I need a break from the forums.

I think aCTF gamemode would be GREAT! as there doesnt seem to be much variety, i mean replay value can only cover a certain amount and sometimes people dont want a plot, just to run around capping flags and pwning noobs and it would still be able to call itself a ‘Team-Based’ game.

(Nail) #6

Apparently the Developers and Publisher don’t agree, the replayability comes from the objective gameplay in multiplayer, not 5 different “modes” to try make something for everyone. There’s planty of mindless camper snipe games out there, play them

.TheTank. is kidding, right?

Hmm, I guess not. Think I might support the other side this time around just to practice my debate skills.

(Diablo85) #8

It will however have the classic mode of Stopwatch! How awesome is that?

Even though I agree with you I sincerely hope this isn’t the type of attitude that leads to Brink not selling well. I want there to be hope for a Brink 2 and more importantly a Splash Damage/id Tech 5 Wolfenstein game published by Bethesda using this core gameplay. If Brink doesn’t sell well enough that might not happen.

Telling people to play other games just doesn’t seem like the solution from a business perspective. I think I’d rather say why don’t you try it before you knock it. Then at least we get more people to play it instead being told to play something else. Remember…some of us grew up playing games like W:ET but many of these kids didn’t so they don’t know how much awesomeness they are missing out on. It’s not their fault.

I want people to come on these boards to ask questions. It means there is interest in the game. We can tell them why this type of gameplay is so skillful. Even if it means doing it often. Don’t we all want this game and more importantly this type of gameplay to be successful?

I guess V1ck is right.

Ok then. Sell CTF to me over objective based.

Easy. You don’t have to play it. BTW I don’t think CTF is the solution but maybe at least an Elimination mode (1 life per person but there are still revives). RTCW had it. It was fun. It still involved teamwork (medic/Liet) to win. I just don’t see how having a mode similar to this would somehow make the experience bad for players playing objective gametypes.

How does you playing Elimination hurt my experience in Stopwatch? It doesn’t. Either way don’t get me wrong it looks like Stopwatch/Objective will the be only mode in this game and I’m still ok with that. I still love everything Splash Damage and their approach to this game but it doesn’t mean it’s perfect.

(Weeohhweeohh) #12

There are so many games out there with these game modes…play them.

Edit: Hi

(.TheTank.) #13

I just want brink to have a bit more … variety. because those story missons are gonna get boring after a while

(H0RSE) #14

The amount of things to do and replayability in SD-style games, is the very definition of “variety.”

Think first, then post

How many games do you currently play ?
one of them is likely a mindless shooter, play it when you want, and play Brink when you want

I play Settlers 3 or AoE2 when I feel like RTS , Angry Birds or Peggle for yucks and still play W:ET and even DF2 for LANS

not all games need to incorporate multi modes, Splash Damage games do very well with just the one

(SockDog) #16

You mean the free one and the one that didn’t do all that good despite being a good game?

(Mad Hatter) #17

Think about like this: Brink’s one game mode is like All of your regular modes put together. It’s got everything. Killing people, capturing points, escorting things, stealing things, blowing things up, etc.

It’s like Highlander. Brink’s game mode has absorbed all of the other, lesser game modes into itself. There can be only one!

+1
10 letters

(Nail) #19

Yep, those two
neither of them would be improved with TDM or CTF
