Anything you can do in the game isn’t considered cheating until someone (like a league or a server admin) decides it’s cheating.

Personally, I don’t think strafe-jumping or A/S throwing people is in the spirit of the game. There are places where it is fairly obvious that the map designer wanted to allow boosting. It is also fairly obvious that the map designer wanted to require a satchel charge or dyno in other places. Witness that they modified fuel dump to try to prevent people from boosting on the west side of the wall.

So, while I think these gymnastics are creative and neat and all, I don’t think they have any place in serious play.

Other’s opinions can and will vary.

As to why strafe jump is still in the game. It seems clear that a certain percentage of the population wants this crap in the game so they can be 1337. Either developers don’t mind it, don’t care about it, don’t think the community is ready, or are not brave enough to take it out.

Thank god drop weapon is gone. /kill and bunnyhopping will hopefully be next.

Of course, the movie is very well done  Good stuff…

(tigerx) #24

u guy wanna teach me how to do the smoke jump plz?

(bani) #25

they didnt. secondary objectives use a radius + line-of-sight check rather than a fixed trigger box that primary objectives use.

The splashdamage folks are almost all verteran quake game players. They know about strafe and sprint jumping. There have been quake mods which artifically limit this (the recently released truecombat for example) It is not hard to do. Obviously the DEVs chose NOT to do that. The also made maps with some truely awesome strafe jumping runs, which hardly seems like an accident to me.

The obvious conclusion to me is that it ADDs to the game rather than taking away from it. This is NOT A REALISM GAME, it is a fast paced action game. Strafe jumping allows any decently skilled player to move even faster. It is NOT hard to learn, and it lets you move around the map at mach speed. Whats to hate ?

:moo:

whats next, rubber bullets?

here’s a hint: the sd devs are seasoned q3 experts.

(kotkis) #28

Why not? They exist in RtCW and cause no trouble

Yeah, I wish they would replace this current aiming system with an aimbot so that no one could be special or 1337! [/sarcasm]

Hi!
Nice movie! Ive done two myself (rtcw) and I know how much time it takes to make a good film like this.
Thank u for making it! Inspiring! // Loffy

PS. U seem a nice person too, as u try really hard and diplomatically to reply to comments from some people who r soo lost.

No matter how many times it is said, some people still dont get it. It’s a videogame! Kudos to the skilled strafejumpers.

And kudos to SickBoy for a cool movie. :drink:

(Agrado) #31

Please, what is a “strafe jump”? I watched the video but I don’t really get what you mean by this term.

(kotkis) #32

Strafe-jump is a technique that gives you longer jumps when done right. Strafe-jumps aren’t hard to do, you just press the sprint button at the right time, do a little mouse-movement (I don’t know how to explain this one), release the sprint and jump. The first trick of Sick Boys movie uses strafe-jump to get over the old city wall in oasis. You can gain a little speed-advantage when doing multiple strafe-jumps when compared to a guy who just runs and uses his sprint without jumping. This little advantage may be valuable in clan wars at the beginning of a map where both teams need to get ASAP to the objective.

Sick Boy, how did you get rid of those skill bars, health info and stuff like that? I’d like to have only the gun to be visible.

Absolutely frickin awesome work, Sick Boy.

I know that when I see someone do something that is creative, I always have a positive reaction. Nothing I see in the movie is an exploit of the game, and most of them really wouldn’t help much in actually completing the objective.

I’m tired of hearing “fix this” and “fix that” about the game to make it “more real”.

I’m sure you anti-1337 kids who can’t learn to do these things might THINK you have a good point, but the game is still what it should be - a test of the gamer’s skills, which in turn CAN be a 1337 jumping contest, or whatever else the gamer decides it to be.

I’m glad trick-jumping is in, and I’m glad it won’t be taken out.

(bani) #36

you forgot these…

(Sick Boy) #37

Nice ones bani

(bogs) #38

abusing it? lick pouch buddy.

(bogs) #39

2 man towers are ok. And that video showed a 2 man tower on oasis. It was sweet. I’m gonna steal it. Not that allies really need it on that map
