[movie] ET Moves 3

(Kendle) #21

Just watched it at work (no sound in my work PC) and it looks fantastic. Some of those jumps could be really useful in a Clan war, I just wish I could do even the simplest of them :frowning:

thx sickboy … never thought of using aa/af when doing the recording :drink:

i assume you put the AA/AF on when outputting the screenshots. will give it a try tonight and

(Maximus191) #23

Also use a program called Virtual dub when turning your .tga screenshots into an avi.
The proggie comes with loads of inbuilt filters and effects that make your .tga’s look awesome.(Sharpen filter is your best friend  )
Just do a google search for the program and don’t worry it’s free o/

(pgh) #24

Or create a Photoshop action (macro) as shown on www.shaolinproductions.org and have an even better quality image…

Tho obviously its not free…

(meLonF) #25

I am currently using a programme called Vegas Video to make my movie … this seems to be a good choice because i can import tga screenshots directly and only covert them to avi during the final render. It also allows me to output my tga screenshots @48 fps and only covert them to 24fps avi during the final render.

i’m now wondering which programmes you used sickboy and the exact steps you took to produce the final avi … because i’m desperate to get the same sort of quality you have achieved in et moves 3

thx in advance for everyones help.

i’m now wondering which programmes you used sickboy

Try looking in the readme

And when the hell is SD gonna give us a quote button on these forums

(Sick Boy) #29

I used adobe premiere to create the clips from the tga’s, and exported them to divx. Then appended them with virtualdub.

divx settings:
512384 (everything above 640480 is a waste imho)
b-frames and gmc on
1-pass quality based

With 1pass QB you can adjust the quantizer. For still camerashots you can set it up to 1(which is highest quality) because the filesize still will be very small, for others around 2 to 6 depending on movement and map (radar is a bitch  ), so you end up with a bunch of movies that all look good and are not too big.

I think the ā€œQuoteā€ option was taken off us cos we abused it, any of you guys remember the multiple nested quotes thread? it looked cool though

Argh the suffering of the missing quote button EASILY exceeds the damage we have done with that topic. :bored:

I capture at 1024x768, render with mjpeg losless codec to raw aviusing Vdub, edit with Vegas and use Vegas inbuilt resizing when doing the final render with XviD to 640x480. That way you have 1024x768 resolution detail in a 640x480 clip. Handy when cropping etc, no loss of detail when zooming. I’ll see if i can do a small clip of another movie im working on to give an example.

Just curious Sick Boy, what framerate do you capture at? I notice it seemed a little jerky in places.

(meLonF) #33

thx again sickboy

Soz 4 offtopic, but i would really like to see a movie of SoF (skilled + sportive lads),

Here’s a small example clip. Just a single pass @ 2000, no fx

http://darkangel.diesa.co.uk/SDexample.avi (4.5mb) needs latest XviD 1.0.1

Just curious Sick Boy, what framerate do you capture at? I notice it seemed a little jerky in places.

Speaking of jerky, was the first jump in your trailer captured by a spectator? I get jerky movement like that all the time when moving the camera as a spectator, but it’s better when using EDV freecam.

I’m a noob when it comes to video editing (only have QVM), but I’ve been experimenting a bit with temporal supersampling and XviD encoding. :weird: This clip (565kB) was captured at 250 FPS (1024768) then averaged together to 25 FPS (and reduced to 640480). Then I squeezed it down to 950 kbps (actual bitrate) using single pass XviD, and I think it still looks OK.

i have a quote button…how come you dont?

@DarkangelUK, thanks for teh explination. = )

(chavo_one) #37

i have a quote button…how come you dont?

It’s a bug with the forum and certain browsers that no one from SD has addressed.

(CM..Punk) #38

Some of the less-popular browsers show the quote button, but I know IE and MyIE2 it doesn’t work in

([!]Icon) #39

ah.
you realize im still going to tease everyone with my MAGICAL QUOTING ABILITIES!!!

(BondyBoy007) #40

oh yes, firefox seems to have it - but I usually post while I’m in work
