Movement Speed

(Apples) #41

So you didnt get the point when I said he was an obvious troll? In french when you argue too much for nothing relevant we call it “brain masturbation”… Arguing is good tho, feedin the troll isnt…

Meh… I already changed my mind from “Brink is slow” to “brink seems slow”, cant do better…

Peace

I for one would like to know if there is a valid reason behind the current speed? Does it function better with smart? etc etc. Otherwise what would be wrong with increasing it? mmm paleezz explain.

(potkettleblack) #43

From what I remember, SD stated ages ago that they didnt want players [lights], getting to the objective too quickly.

(Nail) #44

I think I’ll wait for the finished product before I decide

(Jamieson) #45

I think the problem is they can’t make the light to fast or it would unbalance the game because as a heavy you might have better weapons and health but for every light you kill they will get to the objective much quicker so you have to kill them twice to even make a dent in the attack etc.

Do you really think ETQW was that slow compared to ET? Perhaps the map sizes make it misleading because with infinite sprint + strafe jumping you move about the same as ET although I did miss shooting + sprint from ET, that was very cool. Brink does look to slow though for whatever reason.

(DarkangelUK) #46

Just a genuine question for those that think it looks slow compared to ETQW, can I ask what ingame FOV you use for ETQW? I play with 110, and on occasion where it’s been reset to 90, it feels far slower until I set it back. It seems a given at the moment that all of these vids for Brink would be created with fov 90.

(shirosae) #47

Typically 105, though I’ve tried 90 a few times recently cause Ashog said he sprouted aiming skills with the larger targets when he moved to that. Brinks looks much, much slower than ETQW even with fov 90; looks more like BC2 (which I also run at fov 105 horizontal).

Unless Brink is running at something stupid like fov 55 like BC2’s default is. I suppose some well timed screenshots could be used to work out what’s Brink’s fov is.

(BomBaKlaK) #48

I relly hope some SD comment on the speed !!
To know what we gonna expect !

(Kinjal) #49

16:10 - 110, my old monitor 4:3 - 120

To BomBaKlaK

expect the speed for x-box 360

(INF3RN0) #50

90 always :).

(Voltech) #51

I agree with the speed up. If I’m meant to parkour all over the place I’d better be fast or whats the point? If everybody’s fast then people will be able to reach their objectives and block objectives just as quickly I don’t see how that could break the game. We all know once people figure out the maps their will be bottle necks anyway. Besides I want to be able to run all over the map like a monkey on speed dodging bullets and completing objectives =D

The point ISN’T to “parkour” all over the place - that’s more the point of Mirror’s Edge, or a parkour sim game. The main purpose of the SMART system in Brink is is to smooth out movement - to elimate barriers other shooter put on movement, regardless how fast you are moving.

(Voltech) #53

Ok fair enough but I don’t want to be a sitting duck because I tried to climb a wall to escape. Otherwise we might as well just hide and shoot like any other game though I don’t think thats what will happen. At least I hope anyway. I want to play what I saw in the trailer is all I’m saying

(LyndonL) #54

Sorry, no flippy spins etc. Climbing, vaulting, mantling, limited wall hopping, falling to a slide and sliding is about the extent of it afaik.

(topeira) #55

frankly im more into slow speed and road runner speed. i’ve had enough MW thank u very much. i dont like the cartoony bullet dodging technique. it gives a weird feel for the fire fight, IMO.
i preffer the more tactical approach to combat where u can’t run away from bullets to u need to play s.m.a.r.ter (see what i did there?) and rely on team-mates and cover. i am avoiding hyper speed games like quake, UT3, MW and the likes in favour of more slow paced games that encourage use of cover.

for one, im completely satisfied with how the speed of movement in Brink looks like. bunny hopping ruing the immersion for me and i hate games that allow it with passion.

(tokamak) #56

I guess that’s what the heavy bodytype appeals to, I like that as well.

(Voltech) #57

@ topeira - Thats strange because I was thinking just the opposite, especially after watching the teaser trailer.

Now don’t get me wrong i loved playing Raven Shield back in the day and i think they nailed the slow moving ultra realistic gun play you are describing but this game is all about running, dodging and climbing around the environment at least thats what i’m getting from everything I’ve seen.

I say speed up the slim dudes lower their health and let them run like bunny rabbits. I’m thinking about it like a game of football you got your Center, Tight ends and your Wide receiver. they all play different parts but are all part of the same team and without each other the team will fail.

idk if I got this right, but did u just say mw was a fast paced game?

For Brink, I don’t think you need to have super fast teammates to not fail…A team of all Heavies could be just as successful.

(Apples) #60

Dang you were faster than me here  Lol’d
