Movement Speed

(scifikr) #1

Watching videos from the game I’ve found it somewhat slow. The base movement speed seems too low for allowing evasive manouvers when caught in a firefight, and even if the light body type is faster, it will need to be much faster to avoid getting hit (at least from my experience on PC FPS, and even more if non ironsight spread is tight) which is his main advantage, aside from reaching some higher places. So, my question is, will on PC the base speed of movement be adjustable, via console or the likes?

PD: Maybe I’m wrong and the base speed is perfect, but I got the feeling the base speed is optimal to console controllers.

actually im gonna play console and it still looks too slow.

I don’t see why everyone thinks it looks sooooo sloooooow… It looks fine to me - even the sprint speed of the heavy.

(Qhullu) #4

my guess is that they don’t want to comment, if they said that the movement speed on consoles needs to be slower than on PC because an analog stick is inferior to a mouse when it comes to aiming in fps games, they’d be quoted all over the internet. and while there’s a saying that all publicity is good publicity, it’s not necessarily true in this case.

if they want to make it possible for people to use ironsights with a high level of zoom to aim in mid to close range fights, they need to keep the movement speeds very slow though. i hope they don’t.

but yes the movement speeds do look like something that lets the better aimers keep their crosshair on top of a dodging opponent model close to 100% of the time.

played too much CoD and not enough W:ET?

ETQW was considered slow already (though it speeded up ‘enough’ with etqwpro),
and brink is even slower.

My total online time of both COD4 and MW2 is less than an hour. Total time played of W:ET - probably at least 1000 hrs. Add in RTCW, and that time probably doubles. They are also the only 2 games I joined clans and leagues for.

(potkettleblack) #7

If its anything like BC2 or MW2 - its slow as bat****.

Will wait for a gameplay dev video to make a proper assessment :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I read somewhere I can’t remembre where !

But you can change all the server setting !
Can we rent a server and speed it up ?
Is it possible ?

The online xp system usually screwed these kind of server settings, I remember in sof2 back in the days you could change speed, gravity and so on, it ended in battling ala dragonballZ style where everyone flyed thru the map… while it can be funny in some extent, I can definitly see the problems behind that, xp super padding is just an exemple… With global xp there’s a need for every server to have the same cfg’s, nothing should prevent to change it how you like in custom mod without xp tho, and it would be actually a good idea to authorise that, by this way you can have some diversity among the servers and you can please more people, if for exemple some want to play with less spread, faster movement and maybe higher / lower damage per hit, why would someone interfere with that? They simply do not gain xp, so they are not interfering with the other playerbase, and by this way everyone’s happy

As I often mention, the more choices you have, the more fun you get! I’m pretty sick too about these last games where you cant change ANYTHING on your hud or on your FOV, restricting these is as silly as restricting the max resolution you could have… someone playing with a crappy pc and a 15’ screen in 800X600 wondowed mode will probably wont tweak his game the same as someone who use a 24 or 32’ flat screen and a killer PC. The latest have already a huge avantage if you ask me… so let the first change his fov n co to balance his monies issue

Well it is my point of view and i’ll stand by it, but these kind of reasoning arent much accepted lately  Do not EVER dare to say that Brink is slow, I almost got crucified last time oO

Peace

I would just like to hear from SD on whether they plan or will consider part of the PC balancing to include a speed tweak. By that I mean on the vanilla, released game, not as a server side option. I don’t see why they can’t up the speed on the PC in the same way Valve distinguish it’s games between their release platform’s strengths.

(AnthonyDa) #11

You can change the player speed in all Idtech4 games, but as you know “everything as be rewritten” like radho said on the E3 interview, so who knows?

But the thing is that you most likely see 99.99% of the servers running defaults settings, and the rest of the game might be totally broken too. Don’t forget that the maps are really small (at least they seems to be like that) so if you can cross the whole map too quickly it might broke the gameplay (ex: you can’t leave enough time for the defense to prepare itself and so on).

(SockDog) #12

Well I don’t envision a huge increase but a small boost should be doable especially when you already have the variable speeds of the body types and no doubt a line of speed/sprint perks. Just saying it would be nice if the base PC game was given a little more edge considering the controller/audience. I’d go as far to say that if you’re not doing cross platform play why would you want to hobble one version over another?

(LyndonL) #13

SD, please put us out of our misery and give us some good news

(V1s0r) #14

I hope same or a little faster than ET:QW *fingers crossed

(II Captain K II) #15

Imgoing to be playing on ps3 but I can say I hope they make the movement speeds very fast. I hate when fps’s turn into a nonstop ads battle.

(abnorm) #16

It looks this slow because of fov 90. :stroggtapir:
I would love to see a speed between w:et & etqw. but pls pls pls not slower then w:et !!!

(Kinjal) #17

“Brink will not be as fast as W:ET”- Richard Ham. After all iv seen, i must say- slowest game from SD soo far, in a new leaked video u see it very well, movment style is more like COD then ETQW. I mean were is no need of strafing on such speed. Maybe SD just showing a wrong videos, but i think Brink will have very good ratings on x-box and PS3 and bad on pc. My worst nightmare - the maps, if they made for a such speed, the promod will not save the game.

(Ragoo) #18

Rahdo always says we would want to play the skinny guy… but maybe I would also want to play medium and the only thing that’s holding me back is that it’s too slow (at least it looks awkwardly slow in the videos).
I don’t have a problem with the big guy being super slow, I may even play him every now and again. Seems ok that if you want all the big guns you gotta trade a lot of maneuverability, it wasn’t very different in ET:QW.
But please, I don’t want to be forced to be the lightweight with the least amount of guns to chose from and no health, just because it’s the only body type that doesn’t feel like CoD :frowning:

(light_sh4v0r) #19

Where ?

(V1s0r) #20

Pfff… this sounds bad. “slowest game from SD soo far”.
So now we have the movement but we don’t have the speed behind it. So instead of running around we are walking around and doing all kind of fancy stuff. -1 for me :frowning:

Wasn’t this game about the evolution of mankind? The game is playing in the future. I think mankind should have evoled to a much faster species Splashdamage?

Give the Xbox and SP3 peepz thumb down version and the PC gamerz the dubble thumbs up version please
