Mouse not responding (bug?)

(senator) #1

I had already posted this in one of the numerous bug threads and some other guys replied that they had the same problem but I’m still unsure whether this is a bug in ET or whether it’s my mouse.

OK, I have a MS IntelliMouse Explorer (first generation) and sometimes (usually in the middle of a firefight after very hectically mouse movement) my mouse just stops working for a sec. or two. I am still able to strafe with my keybord but that’s often not enough to safe my ass

I had this problem with IntelliPoint 4.0 so I upgraded to IntelliPoint 5.0 yet the problems remain. Maybe I should add that I have no mouseproblems whatsoever in any other game or application, only while playing ET and usually only after really hectically mouse movement.

Is this a confirmed bug in ET or a bug in my mouse driver ? Does this happen in all ET variants (ETPro/Shrub/vanilla) or just in one mod ? Is there any workaround ?

The only mouse related problem I’ve had is where I’ll suddenly find myself looking at the sky or the floor. Apparently it’s a bug that only happens when someone with extended ASCII characters in their name joins the server. I don’t know if this is the same thing that’s effecting you however.

If you’ve tried different mice and it still happens it kinda suggests it isn’t a fault with the mouse. Have you changed mouse drivers lately? Are you using the latest version Intellimouse drivers?

i would buy new mouse… i had 4 mouses until this one (Logitech mx300)…and the mouse “skipping” ur talking about, has been there with the three previous mouses… i would go for logitech mx300 / 500 or a new MSintelli 3.0…

oh…and the surface ur skating on…has big affect on your mouse “laser” also…for an example.if u dropped some water…or even sweat from your palm…or wrist…may stop the mouse completely… (even the best mouses)

I use a pretty “rough” black cardboard…some uses their tableplate…if its a good one…
Iif u want…and got some extra spare money…buy a good mousepad… (NOT steelpad)

I used to have this problem, very annoying. I eventually fixed it by stopping a load of services that WinXP likes to run, although I am fairly sure it was the Indexing Service that was causing the problems.

Just go to your services (assuming WinXP)
Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services - find the Indexing Service, right click>Properties. Then stop the service and set it to ‘Manual’ start up to stop WinXP starting it again.

Hope this helps, if not try killing some other services (be careful!)

Kendle: na, I know that bug and it’s not the problem I have. The suddenly-staring-at-the-ceiling is annoying but you can immediately correct your view, my mouse simply stops functioning for 2 secs, I can’t chnage my view an inch for that time. And yes, I updated my mouse driver (IntelliPoint) from 4.0 to the latest 5.0,… it’s still happening.
By the way: I always thought your avatar was a bat, now that I’m using Opera 7 I can see that it’s a hummingbird

squadjot: naa, I won’t buy a new mouse , this one is not broken because as I said I have no problems whatsoever in any other program

And I’ve a good mouse pad (take 2 sheets of paper, cover them with plastic wrap used to protect books, glue this to your table… perfect and cheap mousepad

Fwuffy Kitten: It’s not that either, I do run XP but I had already disabled all unnecessary services the moment I had installed it. During playing ET only necessary programs (firewall) are still running.

r_finish 1 might fix it.

ur mouse works fine in “other programs”, yes sure…but wolf requires more from your mouse… maybe if u got a friend who got one of the mice i mentioned…u could try?

well i had a Logitech Dual Optical before this Mx300…i would have rated the dual optical just as good, if not better…UNTIL i tried it… it can NOT keep up with the fast movements.

Senator I have the exact same problem with my Logitech MX700

(Lekdevil.NL) #9

I had this problem with both ET and RtCW when I still used that Intellimouse Explorer (switched to MX700 since). In my case, the problem was caused by the Intellitype drivers (i.e. the Microsoft keyboard drivers). Uninstalling those solved the problem for me.

HTH.

I was having the same problem up until last week. I did a clean install of windows, and DID NOT install the intelli mouse software this time, and I have not had an issue with it.

Yes, the Logitech mouse drivers do nothing except make the Logitech mouse not work. It would hardly work at all in Windows (let alone games) until I uninstalled them. Utterly bizarre but true. Anyway, since I already uninstalled them months ago your solution will not work for me :frowning:
