Mouse acceleration at Dirty Bomb

(merryPudding) #1

As a quake player that is used to playing with mouse acceleration i am missing this feature in the mouse configuration options. WIll it still be implemented as native support?

Not the easiest thing to set up but totally worth it. Hopefully easier to set up soon. I asked a dev at some point if accel would come and he said it may but it’s very very low on the priority list right now.

(merryPudding) #3

Thx man, i will try this out. I hope they will implement a native solution… alot of game developers do it for a reason.

(Ghosthree3) #4

Yeah but most developers implement a really shitty version of it.

(merryPudding) #5

Damn, I won’t be able to use mouse button with that acceleration program. I kind of rely on them… and the alternate installation progress seems like too much of a hassle…

(Ghosthree3) #6

You can. See the this part,

If you wish to continue using your manufacturers driver, there is an alternate installation method that applies the driver to ALL
devices that identify as mice. Read more here - http://ozfortress.com/showpost.php?p=885224&postcount=181

Works, just like I said, a bit of a hassle.

(merryPudding) #7

Yea I saw it. But it looks like one these things that become too time consuming and might not even work in the end because theres easily something that can go wrong. Maybe ill try it some time…

Mouse accel is too inconsistent for me. Don’t know how players use it.

(Samniss_Arandeen) #9

Moving the mouse one inch should move the cursor the same amount no matter how fast it moves. Makes precision aim easier.

(Ghosthree3) #10

Completely disagree.

What was great about Q3 is you could change your accel based on which weapon you had out. My weapon config was rather enormous due to all the changes I made per weapon. Sadly, that’s not an option I don’t believe with this. It’s all or nothing. So you don’t get as many benefits as you did in Q3 where you could adjust it or turn it off on the fly :frowning:

(Ghosthree3) #12

Yeah not really. Perhaps with the hotkey function you could use it to a higher potential, I dunno.

(Samniss_Arandeen) #13

Well then. I hope you enjoy slowly creeping the mouse along the fucking pad for precision aim. Because it’s a shitty system.

(Ghosthree3) #14

If that was a problem I’d use an offset.

The only time I need precision tracking aim are the times I move quite slowly anyway. My base sensitivity is very low to begin with so that makes a huge difference. It’s not like I’m playing on 15cm/360 and accel.

Unlike most players who think they are pro for having a huge foot long mouse pad, my mouse pad is about half the size of a textbook and I use the Razer Death Adder mouse.

I can aim just fine with few movments and I don’t need to drag my mouse all the way across the pad.

My DPI is 1800 and 1000 polling rate.

I used to use 15 sens earlier in the game, but lowered it all the way down to 6.5.

Profite.

@BlackFro
hi, was a bit like you in the past. Because I didn´t have many place to play.
But now playing on a bigger surface with a lower sensitivity feel better!
It’s easier to track people and you can still be fast while using your big mousepad

We’re basically running the same mouse setup man, lol. Plain old Death Adder, 1800 dpi, no accel. Used to use 18 sens but have gradually gone down to 6.0, and I’ve actually seen a massive improvement in my game.

Even with 6 sens, I mostly use my fingers and move my wrist a little bit for larger movement. I really have no idea why people use accel, it’s unnecessary for fast movement in the first place and takes a LOT longer to develop muscle memory for.

Thing is, most people instantly say whenever people ask for aiming tips:

TURN OFF MOUSE ACCELERATION.

And to be honest, for good reason. The inconsistency changes from mouse to mouse, but if you want to get better, it’s a good first step.

But for you @Ghosthree3, I imagine you’ve been using it for a long time, at which point you’re probably so used to it, you can aim well with it.

Just saying that at first, it’s better off, but if you want to you can turn it on after lots of practice.

For the most part they are right, that advice stems from many, many games doing acceleration very poorly, so it gets a bad wrap. You ask 19/20 Quake pros though and they’ll tell you it’s the best thing ever.

I actually haven’t been using it a long time. Only two years or so, but I’ve only been really trying to aim properly for the last 2-3 years so yeah…

So many years…wasted.

And you’re wasting more. I used to use accel. It’s garbage, you always improve once you get used to playing without it.
