Mother in Law's house Haunted.. by Wolfenstein??!!

(fattakin) #1

OK. Just recieved a call from the Mother in law, who has a hotline to me for any tech problems. We set her upwith some Wireless Steinheisers to listen to her meditation cd’s / dvds and watch TV. Never any problems. She said that there was a racket coming through, that sounded like a war movie. She held the headphones up to the Phone and the first thing i heard was ‘great shot’ ‘thanks’ and gunfire. I recognised it immediately as RTCW because of the slightly metallic sounding shots. Then a massive JAWHOL and jehaaa helped make my mind up. I started laughing, not believing what the hell i was hearing. Its definately Wolfenstein!!!

So ive been trying to work it out. She lives in a nice suburban part of town, detatched houses, gardens. Her immediate neighbours all round have no kids living at home and shes had no previous problems. She has tried all 3 frequencies on the headphones. Both her sons play ET actively but live in the same city as myself, 30 miles away. Her own PC is off and dosent have wirless so they arent downstairs trying to play it on her creaky PC. There is one house that backs onto a corner of their garden and i remember they used to have noisy kids from when id be there st summer - ai asked might the be bearing the early teens and she thinks they could be so here’s my thoughts.

  1. These 10-14yrs olds are playing RTCW on their PC with wireless headphones? (why rtcw?? why not ET if they are fans or CoD or Counterstrike?)

  2. They are playing xbox RCTW using some 3rd party wireless headphones

  3. playing xbox RTCW on the xbox 360 using the normal wireless headset.

There is no talking so they arent playing online, also she mentioned before the ‘war movie’ started she heard what sounded like water noises and someone getting ‘thumped’… a beat em up?

Its freaky, only started tonight for the 1st time ever… has anyone any ideas or have we called forth the spirit of ET one too many times when me and the bros have been out the back suppin a beer talking ET?

/one seriously bemused fattakin :o

LOL

Maybe she’s secretly playing RTCW or ET while waiting (patiently) for Quake Wars to get released.

Then she’s going to play online and show those 14 year olds her mad skillz.

best. story. ever.

There’s an interesting and hilarious story. Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction, as they say. :stuck_out_tongue:

I second these other posts. You should definitely acquaint your mother-in-law with RTCW and W:ET, so she can train up before ET:QW comes out.

I need help ya fools, i will get this phonecall every night until i fix this. Anyone know anything about shielding wireless signals? :x

(M8DNanite) #10

So you are haunted now
Try to see if you can switch the channel of the headset (or use the buttons where you bind the transmitter and headset together) or put some security on if there is some switch for that available.

Otherwise it might be time to go shopping new headset (with security).

(signofzeta) #11

which is why i have a wired headset

So you are saying that your neighbors have a wireless headset and your wireless headset is picking up their signals?

(kamikazee) #12

You could do that, if you would want to cover certain rooms of a house with shielding foil.
However, I’d rather think it is cheaper to buy a “secured” or wired headset. Besides, living in a tin-foil room is not that fun.

Or alternatively, try to trace the source of the signals and ask if they can change frequencies. Or do the neighbours have 3 of such headsets as well?

(DarkangelUK) #13

What’s the range on the headphones? You could walk from the house in various directions and see where you lose the sound, the shortest distance, usually the opposite direction from the source

You have a receiver that is on the speaker right, which is picking up interference from outside source, meaning the reception quality of the receiver is exemplary yes?

Heres what I would do…Cover the bloody receiver with foam or wrap it up in some form of garment to muffle the reception. Hopefully, this will help the stronger signal of your mothers machine override the outside interferences.

Alternatively, you could always lead line your mothers walls or hang a “say NO to ET” sign on her letter box? Perhaps there is a signal strength dial like some tv antenna’s have? It’s gotta be something really stupid. You could always ring the manufacturer to ask them if there has been similar issue with the unit, and they may be able to point you in the right direction.

why does it have to be kids? most of me old clan were 35+ with one being dangerously close to 50, prehaps it could be someone you’d least expect . . .

(Sauron|EFG) #19

Then people would think she’s afraid of aliens.

ET != RtCW btw :smiley:

(eRRoLfLyNN) #20

Lol fatti that’s class haha, it’s definitely the ghost of RtCW resonating in your old stompin grounds, enough of all this scientific approach!! :stuck_out_tongue:
