Not sure if this idea has been thrown into the mix yet or not…
As it stands, the mortars get an aiming target where a field ops lays an arty strike or smoke canister. The problem here is that there is little point in the mortars using this aim point as it is already being bombed to high heaven.
My suggestion is that Field Ops should be able to look at a point. If they keep their view fixed and zoomed for a few seconds, it marks a spot on the mortar aiming overlay for as long as the field opsa holds it. This will give the mortar users a chance to be effective at removing fixed position enemies such as snipers and MG42s - something they were clearly designed to do. This of course will make the mortar dangerous as it will allow for a srtike on an area with a smoke warning. This may seem unbalanced, but I think it will simply promote more tactical play as the enemy have to employ their own field ops or snipers to scout out the field ops that are marking for the mortars. It would also promote the use of disguises to infiltrate the enemy and seek out the spotters. As it stands, disguises are only really useful for the attacking side. All they serve to do in defense is to confuse the enemy for a short period.
