thnx all for help. I think I’m better in mortaring now… :drink:
Mortar HOWTO
very nice guide, thanks for the timing tips.
best so far is 91 and 1.
amazing how far ammo streches when you do chokepoint timing…
Here some additional tips:[ul][li]Start a local host and find good mortar positions. Memorize (or write down) the angles.
[/li][li]Use objective cameras in limbo to find out enemy spawn times. Also always have the mission timer enabled (Options->View->Mission Timer). The enemy usually spawns every 20 or 30 seconds (know the maps!).
[/li][li]Mortar rounds travel 2 or 3 seconds. So, when you know the enemy is coming, start firing 2 or 3 seconds earlier. Don’t forget to take the spawn invulnerability in to account.
[/li][li] Fire in salvoes of 2 or 3 rounds when want to get the enemy at spawn - to make sure you get all of them. Change the angles slightly, when you want to cluster a greater area.
[/li][li]When the enemy has to escort a vehicle, aim near it. Usually vehicles have objective cameras too, so you know when to fire.
[/li][li]At steep terrain you can fire directly at the enemy (using low angles). An example for this is the Forward Bunker on Battery.
[/li][li]When the enemy starts to avoid your mortar, change target area (and position) for a while.
[/li][*]All enemies which a friendly Cov Ops can see appear on the command map, but with a slight delay.[/ul]
Another good position on battery for allies (this is well known) - sit on the bottom of the slope behind the little inflatable boat, and aim into the spawn. The angle is around 44.5 degrees. Maybe spawn camping (though they should have enough immunity to get out, and they have somewhere else to spawn), but I do it as it is a great way of clearing the bunker so the allies can take it - don’t just try and catch them at the spawn, keep firing to keep it clear, watching your command map to see if the allies are about to get in (easy way - listen for the ramp being built). Alter your horizontal elevation to hit different parts of the bunker - you can even put shots down the passage (ooer).
Also, you can take out the lower mg nest - a more difficult shot, but turn slightly to th eright and drop your angle to around 38 degrees. May take acouple of shots but you can destroy the mg emplacement.
you have too much time on ur hands
good tips, i never use th mortar, but im gona find an ET server now, and gi kick ass
nice guide anyway…
on many servers u easily get kickvote after kickvote from ur own team when u mortar from unusual positions like the above mentioned axis oasis thing clearing the old city wall. they probably think ur a newb firing away without a clue. if u manage to get some kills it will cease, but F1 is “teh magnetic button”, so u need some luck to get a chance
edit: there is no cvar or cmd that specifies which obj cam is shown in limbo menu, right? just wondering, would be handy…
No. And when an enemy comes into sight the camera in limbo usually changes automatically. Just remember the number of the camera/objective.
The only cvar I know which affects the objective cameras is “/g_filtercams 1” to speclock them.
from outside the north gun on oasis…65 degrees. Fire 1 sec before the spawn. Got 149/1.
The only cvar I know which affects the objective cameras is “/g_filtercams 1” to speclock them.
would be nice if leagues would have that in their config
