I’m sure it’s common in any self-served games, but it’s new to me and
man it’s a creepy window peering into sociological imbecility.
The Server Mommy
These sociopathic degenerates get off on powertripping and not playing the game itself.
They cackle in glee when punting someone with very high score, or someone beating
the crap out of them, or just to prove they can.
These poster-children for forced abortion refuse to let valid votes occur, and indeed
thrive on chaos and disorder. This is their “fun” and you getting annoyed or angry just
heightens their fun. TKs? The more the merrier! Kicking you is easy, a trifle, but getting
you pissed enough to leave is much more enjoyable.
They hand out /ref status for favors, loyalty, and even gifts. They’re very much like
petty low-level drug dealers thinking they are important and powerful. They frequently
“talk” from the console to show just how god-like they are. They are insecure children
that need your praise to feel validated, regardless of their chronological ages.
I’m pretty sure these will also be the same types to go looking for cheats, but have the
added benefit of running the server code. If they can, they will, simply because they
can. The thought that someone could beat them at their own game probably keeps
them awake at nights.
It’s sad, really. But I have no time for them.
There are plenty of servers running, well-admin’d ones at that. Servers where
admins rarely exert control without needing to. Sure, people will shuffle teams or
manually move people around, restart or switch maps, or my favorite peeve - extend
mission time when it’s really evenly matched gameplay.
But this is in good spirit, to
make the game enjoyable. The difference is easily discerned.
One scary aspect is that servers and admins you know and love delegate rights to
others, and sometimes to people that shouldn’t have it. Latent mommies brought out by
responsibility. And then, the worst type of mommy: the motherfaker. Anyone can
change their text to blue and yellow and put [ND80] on themselves. Would you know?
Some would, most would not. What about a server though? If you’re not playing from
your favorites list and don’t have the IPs memorized… you cannot tell. And since only
the server can see what IPs are connecting, it’s a powertripper daydream.
As we learn about this, I’m sure we individually avoid them. However there’s always an
endless and fairly constant stream of new blood coming in. This is how they exist.
We should start keeping track of servers and admins displaying this “mommy” trait,
and share these lists. Maybe we can kill the severe offenders… simply by ignoring them.
'course whining posts about them get them off too. So enjoy your spurt.
