A copy from the mapping forum, realised probably many ET players come here but not to that bit of the forum :slight_smile:

After ages, I finally did it - yes, another alpha release, hurrah!

Quick list of the most important things:

  • Caves layout changed putting Allies nearer the weak tunnel
  • Throne room compost bug fixed and moved into caves
  • Horn has better effects now :wink:
  • More detail, and bug fixes
  • Erm, did so many changes I forgot most!

very nice looking map, and it seems to run pretty well on my pants pc. cant comment on gameplay as i just floated around quickly before bed, but one thing i noticed was the lack of soundfx. i only heard some rain outside; it would add to the atmosphere if you added some wind to the tower / higher areas, and maybe some eerey sounds for the inner areas, perhaps some crumbling dust / rubble to the caves maybe? is the map on any servers yet?

I’d love to see this on Nexus with 64 players. Never had a proper game on a custom map, gets too lonely on the little servers =/

For the americans there is the dedicated D80 server as slick (the friendly server admin there) points out above - depending on time of day it can have 30-40 players.

For the UK people there’s also the dedicated [02ET] et@qubenet.net [HELMSDEEP] at 81.19.48.42:27962 with 30 players, although this one is pretty hard to get on - I have private slot password and still find it difficult. Also this WAS running on the old unpatched ET, although I believe Zum the server admin has said he’ll be upgrading very soon.

Shit-storm extreme (69.31.6.151:27960) also has it on rotation, and they are often very near their 50+ slot maximum.

What’s this Nexus server? If you can give me contact details I can always forward info and see if they’d try it.

Glad it runs ok on older computers, I was getting a bit unhappy with the outside framerates but that’s what I get for covering such a large area. Inside of course it should be fine :slight_smile:
More / better sound effects are a detailling stage still to come. I ran out of my self-alloted time for this upgrade, so wanted to get it out with the new gameplay changes to see how they do.

Finally, EXPECT A SMALL SCRIPT PATCH SOON - there appears to be a slight problem with the south valley flag that means Allies can spawn there after Axis have blown the main gate. If this is thecase, I’ll probably also up the speed of the horn recharge to a minute per level or less ‘by popular demand’ so to speak :slight_smile:

I may leave the patch a few more days to see if other issues become apparent, but I’m working on it soon, as well as a sound pack with the ever helpful and over-eager Siliconslick :smiley:

But… apart from that, I can now move onto the 3 other maps I’m actively planning on working on - one is Minas Tirith, and the other two are in conjunction with the other forum rodent - Ratty Redemption. One is an update to MML_Church to include an outside section (making it more suitable for larger teams) and the other is an as-yet unnamed map with a castle - Ratty is doing the rather tasty terrain and I’ll be providing the fort in the middle.

Keep coming with thefeedback (particularly bug reports / missing textures / weird crap / ideas) for this one though, I don’t want to leave this for the next 6 months like I did with A2!

OK thanks for that, I’ll peruse it once I’ve finalised a proper ‘press-pack’ for the map :slight_smile:

In the mean-time I’ve just released a small (15k) patch for the map to update it a bit.
Download it at the same place as the main file here:

The patch contains:

  • Fixes the south valley bug.
  • The well rope starts down.
  • The Horn charges up at the rate of one level per minute.
  • Various Horn announcements saying when it’s charged, at
    what level, and what level it’s blown at.
  • A few new sound effects.
  • Removes the initial axis command post announcements.

Note having the patch won’t stop you joining unpatched servers.
You can tell if the patch is on the server because on map start it says the map version and patch version in the console (if no message, you aren’t playing with the patch).
