"Missing CD Key, Kicked 2 minuted via Punk-Buster

(Cobra-NYC) #1

Hello folks,

First off, my hat’s off to Splash Damage for a great game.

I am enjoying this game alot. But this morning, I wanted to play and I get this error that say’s you have been kicked via Punk buster for 2 minutes because of a missing CD-Key. Wait, i thought these games had no cd-key?

Can someone help?

Thanks

Anthony

This is how I fixed it. Keep trying to join a server until you get on one. Then exit the game and go to the etmain folder and look for the “etkey” file and make it a read only file.

ET, PunkBuster & Missing CDKeys Comment!
Sunday, June 1, 2003, 05:10 | Jube
Even Balance Inc. have updated their PunkBuster Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory news with information on “Empty CDKey” messages. Here’s the full scoop:

Players who are getting “Empty CDKey” messages trying to connect to PunkBuster ET Servers may attempt a manual CDKey registration. Press the tilde key (the ~ key) to bring down the game console from any game screen and enter the following command (without quotes): “/pb_cdkeyreg”. You should see a message stating that a Registration Request was sent to the GuidAuth Master Server. After a few seconds (perhaps up to 30 seconds) you should see a message stating that the CDKey Registration was successful. After that, there should be no more messages about an Empty CDKey when trying to join a PB Server. Players having problems with this procedure (or any PB-related problems in ET) should email support@evenbalance.com and describe in as much detail as possible the problem encountered.

This is basically how it’s fixed.

Go to your
Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain
diretory. Find a file called etkey and delete it.
Then load up the game and pull down the console and type in the following
/pb_cdkeyreg
Give it about 10 to 30 seconds and you’ll see a message saying successful. Now play away. Simple huh

Doesn’t work.

None of the suggestions work for me.

Try making the etkey file in Enemy Territory\etmain\ read only and see If it works tho at first u may need to manually obtain a cd key/guid from PB with the /pb_cdkey reg command once u have been kicked from a server.

I was glad i had written down /pb_cdkeyreg ,cause first server I entered after posted the above I got booted (go figure).

But a quick ~/pb_cdkeyreg and it was fixed.

Why not just stay at your ET main screen? Check your console screen by hitting your {~} key, watch for PB to update your key automatically. It takes a few mins to authenticate, but it works…

Also try this:

Disable and enable Punkbuster, either in the menu or take down the console and type: cl_punkbuster 0, restart ET, take down console again and type: cl_punkbuster 1. Punkbuster should have generated a new key for you now!
