Minor Medic Quibble

(sphinx175) #1

Perhaps it’s the fog of time clouding my memory but I recall in games like RtCW and Enemy Territory, a medic could become quite adept at doing “drive by” revive on fallen teammates, often without having to break from their sprint. sprint-crouch-needle-keep running.

It seems now in BRINK that you have to stand over the teammate for a second or two while trying to throw them a syringe. Even that amount of time can lead to a very dead medic right next to the person they were trying to revive.

Now I’ll admit though I could be doing the heal thing wrong or am I just becoming an old fart who can’t play medic well?

Anyway, really enjoying the game (except for the regen health but that’s another issue).

Thanks

No, it isn’t that you’re becoming old, lol; I still haven’t figured out a way to do that 100% of the time. Sometimes I’ll see the prompt, hold F and make my way towards them, only to get to them and it never actually does anything even if I have full supplies. It seems like a big hit and miss type of deal on whether or not it will actually throw the stupid thing as soon as you get to the person or if you’ll have to sit and wait on it.

(Ghenghis) #3

I believe you’re correct… And whats worse is when you have to hit the frackin F key like 10 times while you’re dancing around trying to heal!!

(Norb) #4

ive managed to ‘‘fluke’’ a few sliding or vaulting over things revives but not sure how I did it tho

(sphinx175) #5

Thanks for the quick responses, good to know I’m not the only one a little curious about this. I would think that as long as you’re over the body a quick tap of the ‘use/interact’ button should be sufficient to lay a revive needle next to them and then you can keep running/sliding to cover or get back to gunning.

(FireWorks) #6

Fully agree, its hard to actually do what you want to do. Controls are a bit screwed at the moment.

(Dopaminergic) #7

I agree that the interact functionality is absolutely turrible… You can sometimes have your cursor directly on a person and have them highlighted with the interact sign showing, but when you press your button you end up going to a nearby person instead! And yeah, when you use it and it does the fast-pursuit to the person, a lot of time while you’re holding it your own person’s movement just glitches out over the teammate and doesn’t actually perform the action until you take the time to reallign yourself and try at it a few more times. Good luck trying to stay alive during all of this.

I very much don’t agree with changing it so that medics can instantly throw out syringes. They’re an as easy as all hell, overpowered class as is. They don’t need to be made even easier. It actually annoys me that people are so okay with the class imbalances. Before you make incorrect assumptions about me, I play medic the most of any class and have experience with using all of the classes’ experience and have nearly 80 hours of play time already.

(sphinx175) #8

No assumptions made, just some polite conversation going on here. Personally I’m just looking for less time required to get someone a syringe. I definitely don’t think a medic should be able to toss the syringe from the safety of cover. Some risk is of course required by the medic to go get his teammates.

To me, that mechanic doesn’t imbalance things towards medics just helps the healing mechanic of the game.

I personally don’t find the medic too easy. I’m doing a very good job of boosting the other teams K/D ratio while doing my suicide medic runs.

The worst is when you run up to someone and throw the syringe and get spun around to face them. Now you’re looking down at the ground in some random direction. It’s pretty disorienting. Stopping you is fine… turning, no so much. I’m not sure if anything should be done about it… it’s just something rather annoying.

(Skysaw) #10

This isn’t so much a medic issue as it is an interaction issue. All classes have this problem, even if some situations are much more critical than others. As a soldier, I’ve wasted plenty of supply pips throwing ammo to someone who was standing next to the person who actually needed it.

(jotun) #11

The whole buffing targeting system feels clunky to me.

I don’t like that you often have to hold down the key instead of being able to just tap it

Targeting is a bit wonky. Sometimes it seems like there’s too much delay before the option to buff even appears. Sometimes instead of buffing the person right in front of me, it makes me run around to someone else behind that person. Really tough to buff or heal the correct person in a crowd.

Sometimes it’s nice that it automatically goes toward your target, but often it’s really annoying. The spinning issue that Phizuol mentioned is the worst.

On a similar note, I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE that looking at objectives on the objective wheel turns you toward them while you’re running. I don’t want to have to stand still to use the damn thing.

(Skysaw) #12

Lol! (and agree). A good percentage of my deaths occur while my wheel is open.

(Senyin) #13

What I find most annoying is the auto-camera angle. I slide by a downed player and revive
and then the camera makes me face him, looking at the ground.
And you get pulled back in to him for a second instead of quickly moving on (the lock on)
NOOOOO, don’t pull me in!

But it’s all good, I’ll find a way  Maybe I need to be more alert on aiming a bit earlier at the downed player.
Although…trying to target the right dude is sometimes a nightmare too haha.

I think you can turn that off in game options

(obsidian) #14

Agreed with the above. I had thought it was something to do with server lag or something where it wouldn’t detect that I was tossing a syringe. Other times, I can pass syringes while doing cartwheels, blindfolded and with boxing gloves on. It happens often enough it has to be something other than lag. I’ve also been annoyed at buffing a fellow teammate as he runs by the other side of the hall instead of reviving the person I’m literally standing on.

I think the distance required to pass a syringe is fine, you should be reasonably close to revive someone like the old chess paddles. The annoyance is mashing the F key while spinning around on the spot and still not being able to pass the syringe. The spinning issue… it’s annoying enough with the objective wheel, I’d like to highlight the objective, but moving my PoV to face it is a little much. I wish there was an option to toggle this off.

(Boltthrower) #15

Have to agree here this system needs to be looked at, as its sucked a lot of the gameplay of et and rtcw out of the game. Its clunky and awkward as I have to run after people I am trying to buff, auto run even losing control over my character and my camera will also spin around and force me to look at some random odd angle when I am trying to revive someone. Gone are the days of strategic healing and environmental awareness as you help your team out. The game now decides for you what you want to look at or where you want to run to. Not to mention I have to hit the f key over and over this was never a problem with the syringe.

(crazyfoolish) #16

I’ve had a lot of luck at doing this quite quickly by sprinting at the guy, sliding and turning to face him, then reviving and sprinting away. I could just be lucky though.

(light_sh4v0r) #17

It’s there in the options. First thing I turned off.

edit: talking about the mission wheel turning you towards the selected objective.

(DeadEye) #18

Agreed. It should be made easier for medics to revive, much easier.

(obsidian) #19

Uh… again, the right word isn’t “easier”, but “more responsive”.

Easier would just be unbalancing, more responsive would be reviving the person you want to revive without mashing the F-key and being spun around. There is a difference.

(Found the objective wheel PoV option… thanks, that helps)

(DeadEye) #20

lol. No, making it easier wouldn’t be unbalanced, it would be how it should be. Running by someone and trying to get a quick rez, only to get locked on and start doing circles around the body is just not how it should be. So it should be easier.
