Minimum system requirements?

(ParanoiD) #1

i was just googling around and fount this:

Recommended
Operating System: Windows XP
Processor: CPU Pentium 4 2.4GHz or Athlon64 3000
Video Card: Geforce FX 5700 or Radeon 9600 or higher
CD-ROM: CDRom 52x or DVD Rom 16x
RAM: 512 MB RAM

Minimum
Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Processor: Pentium PIII 800 MHz Processor or AMD Athlon
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 2â„¢ or ATI Radeonâ„¢ 7000 or higher
CD-ROM: 4X or Faster
RAM: 256 MB RAM

More at: http://www.take2.co.za/product.php?id=487300

Interesting is also a new release date to add to posibble release dates: November 2005

I think if these would be the requirements it would be great. Very low minimum specs so almost everybody can play the game and still high graphics as sen in the screenshots for the newer systems.

You should just take anything that’s not comming from SD/Activision/id directly with a big grain of salt. The trailer for ET:QW said comming 2006 anything else is just speculation, and that goes for minimum/recommended specs too.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say there’s no way in hell that those specs are specific to ET:QW. If ET:QW is Doom engine, then the minimum video card is likely to be a newer chipset.

NVIDIA GeForce 2â„¢ or ATI Radeonâ„¢ 7000 or higher = not very new

If anything, those specs remind me more of a recommended setup for the current ET, rather than the future one, IMO. While it may be possible to run ET:QW or Q4 on a GF2 or a Radeon 7xxx, the performance would likely be unacceptable.

Here at the supported Doom 3 chipsets as quoted from http://www.doom3portal.com/info/systemreq.php:

Lowest supported GPU is a Geforce 4 MX (worse than Geforce 3).
Supported cards:
GF 4 MX.
GF 3.
GF 4.
GF FX (and higher).
Radeon 8500s, 9000s and higher.

From what John Carmack has said the minimum specification for running the basic DOOM 3 engine will be a:

1000Mhz Athlon/Pentium CPU.
256MB of RAM
GeForce 1 / Radeon 7xxx level of graphics card.

‘Full impact’ based on some estimates (not official):

1400Mhz Athlon / 1800Mhz Pentium 4 or higher speed CPU.
256MB of RAM + again quite dependant on how memory hungry your OS is.
GeForce 3 (original or Ti 500).

John Carmack long ago (QuakeCon 2001/2002?) said that the GF3/Xbox level of hardware would be full impact, in that dynamic lighting could be enabled and quality would be nearing the maximum, at 30fps and in relatively low resolution (we’re talking 640x480).

Current (June/July 2003) high-end systems should be kicking ass:

Athlon XP 3200+ 3.06Ghz Pentium 4
512MB of RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro or GeForce 5900 Ultra

I take those recommended requirements as minimum.

It is true that the system specs are lower and teh release date is before 2006. But:

  1. Games are made of a long time so you get delay, but still the engine and graphics wont be changing much as well as the minimum system config
  2. The megatexture or whatever it is called can maybe lower the system specs as well but im not sure how exactly it works.

Still I think they will be higher, but im sure the recommend wont be the minimum.

I am thinking that it will be able to play on about:

AMD Athlon XP proc (so 1500+ or better) or 1,5 GHz P4
256 MB Ram 512 recommend
Ati radeon 9 series or better / GeForce FX5 series or better. 128 MB.

Also if it is based on the Doom 3 engine that will most probably mean that you will have to have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics card.

The graphics look like those minumum specs are no where near adequate.

Look for the minmum specs for Doom 3 and that should be closer to the mark.
