Minimize ET!

A small utility to minimize ET, by pressing ALT + Z you can easily go back to windows, just put into the startup folder in start menu to make it easy.

well, normally i am not very trusting, and would never download a file without expressed approval of other people, but in this case, i couldn’t help but to take an immediate look… the only thing about ET no long bugs me, w00t. lol.

thanks for this “mod” or whatever you’d like to call it, it sure does come in handy.

as a note to other people who download though, your screen resolution stays the same when you minimize as the game was in… other than that it seems to work fine. didn’t show up as a virus, but most virii are made long before they ever show up on a virus scanner, lol.

You can always just hit the Windows key on extended keyboards to bring up the start menu and task bar, or the CTRL-ESC combo if you lack the key. ET seems pretty tolerant of task switching. I think the reason they disabled the ALT-TAB combo is simply to avoid players binding say +expandmap to TAB and walk to ALT, then accidently pressing them both and getting dumped from the game.

You can also play from a window with the standard ALT-ENTER combo. This can be handy when you need to switch to other apps while you play. Like when you’re supposed to be working but you’re getting in some gametime as well. =)

As an aside, you can get your mouse pointer back by bringing down the console.

ALT+ENTER does a vid_restart, which on my heap of junk takes a long time. This minimiser is very quick and efficient.

You can also use it for RTCW (or any other game / program). Create a text file called “check.txt” in whatever directory you saved the “etmin.exe” program file to, and add this line:-

Enemy Territory Wolfenstein

Separate the words “Territory” and “Wolfenstein” with a TAB and make sure it only has one line (don’t press ENTER at the end of the line).

All you need is the “Window Class Name” of the program you want to minimise. The “Window Class” is whatever appears in the title bar of the window you’re viewing. As RTCW and E.T. are usually played full screen you don’t normally see this title bar, so run them windowed and you’ll see E.T.'s “Window Class” is “Enemy Territory”, and RTCW’s is “Wolfenstein”.

You don’t need to create this text file if you’re only going to use it for E.T. as it has the Class names for E.T. (and SOF2) built in.

heyhey thanks a heap, i was looking for this.
I know (and used) this little tool from sof2.

Good thing the author of has decided to make it universal. I Play a lot of q3 based games, and i’m happy with this development.

Btw there is an old trick for puritans who dont wanna use this tool / or if you have forgotten to load it.
You can switch to the desktop by pressing ctrl-alt-del ingame. The taskmanager pops up over your gamescreen, now rightclick on enemy territory and choose minimize. (sadly ctrl-esc doesnt work at my pc…and alt-enter, well …what kendle said.)

i know there are other ways to “fool” the game into alt+tabbing, i have a logitech internet keyboard which i have set the scroll wheel to “task switch” just for that, and it worked fine. i do say that this is the most efficiant way to do it though, IMO.

and… i think it’s ironic that all q3 gaming engine games have alt+tab disabled (quake3, mohaa, and et are the only ones i’ve tried to be more accurate). so, i would say it either has to do with the stability of the game, or maybe it’s to make life hell for those who wanna make trainers/hacks for online gameplay, lol.
