Might and Magic:ET

Some surprising news about the upcoming Dark Messiah of Might & Magic game… it has multiplayer that sounds suspiciously like Enemy Territory.

Gamespy Article

While sort of off-topic, I find it interesting that a fantasy game is adapting Enemy Territory style play in multiplayer. The only fantasy type shooter I played was ages ago, dont even remember the name, but there were monsters in the map also… wasn’t too good.

You probably played Heretic or Hexen.

By the way: check out Project Offset. It sounds A LOT like et.

Make sure to check out the videos and complain about hardware requirements.
However, messiah’s engine is dx, while offset is OpenGL… read -crossplatform.

Why change a gameplay that works?

(B0rsuk) #4

You’ll change your mind when you see Battlefield 32767 , sheduled next year.

The rule does not apply to that game. The gameplay never worked great in the first place, but they won’t change it.

What do you know? They will implement portals, like Portal.
It will be a whole new game then.

I was talking about the game which B0rsuk talked about in the post above mine.

(BrightSoul) #8

So I did ^^
I think the humanity will have the technology to open portals on demand, by the year 32767.

you’re all noobs! I can already do that - only to dreamland though I admit

Portals might not be so far fetched of an idea. I was watching this Nova special on String Theory, which states that far below the size of an electron are resonating strings in fantastic shapes that hold more dimensions than the normal 4 (x,y,z,time).

These strings are supposed to be part of everything, holding more dimensions(6-26), so to move across space it might be possible to tap into another dimension unseen to us and to leave it at a different physical spot. Interesting stuff.

6-26? Last I heard it was 6-10. How do the other 16 fit in?

(Hakuryu) #12

Apparently there are 5 main theories now, and one of them states up to 26 different dimensions may be part of a string.

You’d have to see the Nova special for a better explantion. I can’t say I fully understand it.

From your simple conversation I can deduce 2 things. (Neither of which please me.)

  1. You don’t appear to be “down with O.P.P”
    and, more importantly:
  2. That you have not been touched by His noodly appendage. Yet.

Yes, the string theory may attempt to explain the wonderful symphony of strings, but remember that it is only a theory. To fully understand it, you must accept the Flying Spaghetti Monster as the true creator.
Once you accept the FSM as the only undeniable, you will recognize that the Timecube has deceived you.

Ramen.

I checked out Might and Magic at ign and from what is written in the article, this game is totally NOT oriented towards the hardcore FPS gamer. They are thinking of an entirely distinct cast of (newbie) players to form their fanbase.

So it doesnt seem like an ET competitor. The only thing in common (as far as the article goes, and apart from the fact that the multiplayer component is developed by a different game studio, as was the case with RTCW) are the XP gained while playing. But even this is implemented in a rather awkward manner.
