Midnight Release?

(KAS--Will) #1

I went to Gamestop yesterday, to confirm there would be a midnight release for BRINK (At the Irvine Spectrum Center, in California US) and they said, “There is no longer a midnight release for BRINK (Originally the midnight release would be for LA Noire, but since the date was pushed forward…ya), I’m pretty sure at our larger Gamestop’s we’ll offer a midnight release, but for most Gamestop locations the reservations aren’t large enough.”

What I didn’t understand is the only posters they had on display were 4 huge BRINK ones, and even one by their inventory door, all this advertising, and no midnight release? And just now on another post, I noticed at Wal-Mart you can get BRINK at 12:01AM… so did I just reserve it at the wrong place?

I doubt it’s big enough to get a midnight release just walk in on the day of release and walk out, there won’t be swarms of people looking to play brink because LA Noire comes out a week later and then the witcher 2.

(tokamak) #3

I really haven’t heard anyone ever talk about the witcher 2, or even the witcher 1 for that matter.

Steam’s release timer seems to be set for a midnight release (EDT).

(KAS--Will) #5

Yeah, by my dinky laptop can’t handle BRINK… so I’m getting it on the 360, and I don’t really think I can sleep May 9th…

(Weeohhweeohh) #6

The Gamestop I’m picking Brink up will be having a midnight release. Triple checked!

(Chili Squirts) #7

Oh no way you reserved it at the Spectrum? I was thinking of going to that one but they very rarely do midnight releases unless it’s something like Halo or some other big game

(CapnHowdy21) #8

My Gamestop said the same thing. There is no longer going to be a midnight launch since it doesn’t share the date with other big titles. This also while having a huge Brink sign on the front of the store. Oh well. I’d rather have it a week earlier at 10:00am, then on the 17th at midnight. I’ll just make sure I wake up so I can be there when the open on the 10th.

i’ve learned not to trust the Steam release timer, it ususally change like 30 times before the actual release

(KAS--Will) #10

If it were released at midnight, I could sleep all night on the 9th, then at 12 pick up BRINK, go home, go to class, come home, and play till about 10 (on the 10th) sleep… and be back on schedule… now I have to go pick up BRINK, go to class, stare at it for 3 hours, go home and play it for about 7 hours, then go back to school.

My Gamestop’s manager is a big Brink fan and he has said twice now that even if they don’t have “events” in store that night he is keeping the store open until midnight himself, and anyone who wants to hang out and talk about the game or whatever can and then pick up the game at 0001.

(KAS--Will) #12

…Dude, tell that manager he’s the coolest manager ever.

(LyndonL) #13

Bah. I have 3 RDOs on the 9th-11th and start a run of day shifts on the 12th. Brink releases at 2pm on the 12th for me. Not happy Jan! At least with winter the sun sets at 5:30pm so I will be home then ready to play! If I get a call out I will freaking rage.

(Herandar) #14

And hope his district manager is aware and pre-approves of this, or he’ll be fired…

Also, in regards to OP, you can’t pre-order at the WalMart store, only from their website. Midnight Launches are entirely unrelated to the amount of money a publisher pays for advertising. If they aren’t going to make a profit in the extra business hours, they aren’t going to stay open.

(ultraddtd) #15

When I paid off my preorder at GameStop I was told there MAY be a midnight release, because the preorders have been more than expected, at least at my local store, but that would depend on whether the region manager approves it.

(St NickelStew) #16

I am certain one can always pick it up at WalMart at midnight … they are open regardless.

The bad thing about having pre-orders being mailed to me (living in a small town) is that there will be no midnight release for me. In fact, due to work obligations, I won’t be getting home until about 7:30 PM on Tuesday to be able to begin playing.

(CapnHowdy21) #17

Not all walmarts are 24 hours. Usually only the Super walmarts.

(Linsolv) #18

I assumed there would not be a midnight release, but with all the talk about them and everyone’s stock response being “check with your local brick-and-mortar” I did. Not scheduled. I now hope not to deal with that woman for at least another month because I hate asking questions I already know the answer to. Makes things super embarrassing.

(hazzzen) #19

I was told by a guy at my GS that the reg manager wouldn’t approve of the extra hours. Cheap asses

(Kinomed) #20

No midnight release for me :frowning: but if anyone wants hit me up on xbox i will be on it all day gamertag is Kinomed Demon
