message to Splash Damage: one version of brink without steam

(Senethro) #141

Being VAC banned doesn’t stop you from rebuying the game on a new account, although you’d be well advised to remove cheats before doing so.

It would also be a good idea not to share your steam passwords with idiots or sign into your account on computers of idiots.

I hope you’re proud of yourself!

(murka) #142

I agree this is rare and all cases are somewhat unconfirmed, but looking at examples where steam just goes down or some bugs detected… all programs have bugs, but telling that its decision 100% correct is something i’d rather not trust.

(Ashog) #143

Steam has a region limitation, so that if you bought a game in some countries outside EU and then try to play it while being inside EU, Steam won’t let you activate the game. I have a full collection of totally legitimate HL2, HL2E1 and HL2 orange box DVDs including Team Fortress 2 but can’t play them here in Finland. Nice huh? I am not making the same mistake again by dealing with Steam.

(Wolfmeister) #144

I have lots of games bought outside Sweden, never had any problem with any of them.

(Senethro) #145

What region were you buying them from? Also were they different versions of the game like is Finland restricted to low gore versions of games and you bought a game from an uncut region? It was probably even in the EULA of the version you bought that its use is restricted to certain territories.

I think this thread is running out of…

(Ryan) #147

so like wtf, I HAVE to have a Steam account to install this game!?
Could anyone confirm???

I have nothing against Steam to destribute games or anything (although I think buying a hard copy is more satifying) but wth I need it for AUTHENTICATION?

I hope there will be some crack out that lets you play the game without Steam.
(Lol, what about free marketing? Is Steam like the monopoly all of a sudden and everyone just let’s them get away with it and even contributes to it? I’d say we all boycot Steam, it’s a piece of *** software)

(Ryan) #148

He said outside of the EU, not sweden. L2Read

"dealing with Steam"©==“mistake” ©
use “beware !! Steam-infested content ! keep away !”-transparent to save [inocent]people lives and money.

Every game plays smoothly, they automatically update, it provides community events and friend lists, video and text chat - it’s like a streamlined XBL for the PC…that you don’t pay to use. As for authentication? Blame that on the community. If piracy wasn’t so rampant, they wouldn’t need such “extreme” methods to counter it.

(BioSnark) #151

Don’t ask about a Steam requirement and then tell someone else to learn to read.

(Senethro) #152

If you don’t know that Steam needs an account to use, you don’t know enough about Steam to be passing judgement on it.

(tokamak) #153

Steam’s popularity is indeed the result of a successful product in a free market.

(INF3RN0) #154

Good thing Valve made some awesome games otherwise I don’t think I would ever use it…

(Ashog) #155

It is not connected to gore. It is purely regional. There was nothing written on the DVD boxes in connection to the restrictions. When contacted, Steam support answered “sorry, we can’t help you”, meaning that I sould **** off. Robbery, nothing else… And this is only one small example. Google for “Steam sucks” and you will find tons of whining and proofs describing what a piece of **** this Steam is.

(Senethro) #156

You get how they have to price things differently in the markets of developed nations and developing nations, right? America/Europe pay a higher price that supports the development of the games. Developing nations pay a price that has to compete with piracy and only makes a profit on the materials/shipping cost of the disc. Without the American/European market noone would develop games, but they might as well try to make additional profit by selling at a locally reasonable price in other markets.

So when you buy games in other regions, intentionally or unintentionally you are avoiding paying the cost it took them to develop the game. Thats what the whole region locking thing is about in games and other media.

Your gripe is either with global capitalism or with having to do research before buying technology products. Depending on where you bought the game you maybe only paid 5 euros for it in which case you’ve hardly lost anything anyway.

(Ashog) #157

Once again, learn to read please. Whereas the price was considerably higher than 5 euros, there was nothing standing on the DVD boxes about the regional restriction. This is what I call piracy, but this time from the game producer side. Had I known about this restriction beforehand, I wouldn’t buy that game or would buy a central european version. I don’t know how else to explain to you the obvious thing.

(Senethro) #158

Are you sure? What region was this from? Could you even read the local language? I’d be certain it was in the EULA either for the game or Steam itself.

What is it with people saying learn to read when you don’t automatically agree with what they’re saying? I get that you’re bitter about your game getting turned off but you were probably given fair warning.

No I wasn’t given. Also I am not reading EULAs in internet before buying games (and noone should).

(Senethro) #160

Theres a substantial warning on the back of my L4D2 box that you should read the agreement online and gives a URL. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to me to have to read an online EULA for an online service, yeah?

Basically I suspect you bought from a dodgy international reseller and got burned and are bitter about it.
