I find it the squad of three can be very limiting at times, especially in public matches. It would be nice to be able to have access to a medic, engineer, field ops and combat oriented mercenary in a match.
Mercenary squad slots increased to four?
I don’t think 3 is more than enough, I think it’s just enough. I mean, I think Rhino would suck if everyone could suddenly switch to Nader or Fragger.
My only problem with 3 in the squad is the fact that you never know what side you’re on in objective until the merc section is already locked. I do find certain mercs better for defending and others better for attacking. I try to balance out the 3 so I have a little bit of everyone but some times it’s tough. I think we should be informed before the merc section is locked what side we’re going to be on.
depends on how many mercs they release and what the maps are but i can clown with 4
A thought just occured to me that I should have added a two mercenaries and one as poll options. Unfortunately I can’t change them after the first vote is made.
@RazielWarmonic Any moderators mind adding them for me?
Elaborate as to why you think having a fourth mercenary in the squad a bad thing? Hell no is hardly a response. RyePanda made his/her reason as to why he/she thinks it’s a bad idea. A discussion is hardly a discussion if people don’t make better answers than this.
I think having only 3 mercs available in your squad makes it so you still have to be slightly strategic about who you pick or what your team might need.
So if a player on your team is a medic and you decide ‘I don’t need to have a medic because we have one’ and he/she turns out to be only interested in healing himself/herself. You end up losing the match all because you want to make ‘slightly strategic’ decisions?
I always have a medic, engineer, and either a field ops or a combat oriented mercenary, but I find there are times when I’m playing in a public server, and let’s say I have Sawbonez, Fletcher and Fragger for example in my squad. There is one or two players that already have a field ops in their squad, but then they decide in the middle of a stopwatch match to both switch to Nader and Phantom and never switch back to their field ops mercs.
I don’t know about you, but having to run all the way to an ammo crate just because Splash Damage has a three mercenary limit and my team members in a public server refuse to play field ops is rather ridiculous.

I don’t think many people think that way. I usually have a medic and engineer in my squad, even if 5 other people in my team do. Then if need be, the players in my team can switch to a different role if they have a merc better suited for a job that needs doing and someone needs to take their place.
Sometimes you have to live with those decisions. You have to make decisions in life, you can’t choose everything. If you make a “wrong” or “bad” decision, well maybe next game you might do something different, or your team mates will. And in my experience I haven’t experienced any medics like that. And sometimes it may seem that way, although we all make bad decisions or can be less observant at times. It happens. Anyway I just think that 3 is fine for now at least.
The answer to all your stress: DONT CARE ABOUT PUBS, its a known fact people play what they want. Why would they not do that. Play what you wanna play and do your best. If you win, great. If you lose, who cares. Your not play competitively.
You do realize that this game was balanced on a competitive scale, not for pubs, right?
Also, if you are able to fit every role you need, it gets boring after a while.

I would play competitive in this game if I didn’t have to wait over an hour at my rank to find one match during peak hours on the weekend. The population as it is cannot support competitive. The numbers are far too low.
Just because there isn’t a lot of people around doesn’t mean they’re not there. It’s better if competitive isn’t unbalanced since that way, well you get F2P Ballistic, that’s what you get if comp’s unbalanced.
I’ve been on at different hours and days for the last few months trying to figure when these people play, but I can’t seem to find it. At a minimum I have to wait an hour at least to find a single match. If you know when they play let me know. Otherwise I’ll be stuck playing public matches until then.
How about a compromise? Have four mercenary slots for public matches and three for competitive. A simple solution to people in this discussion talking about how the game is designed around balancing for competitive.
Meh, seems like a waste of time really, but screw pubs anyways.
Does anyone need a screw for their wall? Yeah, sc rew.
It’s allowed in quick chat, so why is scr ew a profanity?
Hey, I’ll try something. Curse you!
Okay, the fact that I expected curse to be censored…
The thing that is a waste of time is cosmetic skins and trinkets. Having three slots for competitive and four slots for public servers isn’t asking for much. If Splash Damage gave me their sdk I could do it for them.
