I think that we should leave it as something that will not necessarily keep or encourage new players to play the game, but something for the developers to consider, and based on the player feedback, they can make a decision with the information that they have and also their own vision for the game.
Unless you would want to discuss further. I know we can sometimes sound a little agressive on the internet so just to be clear, I’m just trying to brings this to a close (of coarse it can carry on if you wish)
Mercenary squad slots increased to four?
I choose three because I want to feel horrible about my decisions after. I could have all the roles with four in a squad (engineer/fire support/ medic/recon or assault) or if I want to play medic I could switch from Aura to Sparks depending on which side I’m on while also having two other roles to fall back to.
Three makes me think who I want or need for the job. It’s a gamble and I love playing with the hand I’ve dealt myself.
I’ve been having a good time with Nader, Stoker and Phoenix set-up lately but then I see that only one guy brought an engineer…
it should only exist in casual; eventually, picks and bans should be in ranked.
Although it’d be cute if casual teams could vote to have one merc banned in pubs.
I thought the abilitiy to only use three mercs at a time was a marketing technique to make player play dirty bomb more.

That would be really interesting. It would be hard choosing a merc though because there are so many that can do the job. I guess you could ban all engineers or something (actually sparks can be pretty good and carry the team).
With 3 slots you can have 1 of each type of merc. 1 medic, 1 objectivist and 1 combat. Case closed.
But we have 5 types of mercs…
Medic, Engineer, Fire Support, Recon and Assault.
Anyway back on topic.
Let’s say we increase the amount of slots to 4, how long will it be before people begin asking for a 5th slot?(I mean, it’s just one extra slot, what’s the worst that could happen.) And so on…
I have more to say on this topic, I’m just not sure how to phrase it right, I might be back later with an edit.
Having to rely on your teammates makes this a team oriented game. Yeah sometimes it doesn’t work out for the best, but sometimes people will choose roles they need to fill. That kind of cohesion is awesome, and having the option to play the game yourself is not one I’d agree with.

That’s not a valid argument though. It’s called the “Slippery Slope” fallacy, I believe…
…yeah, here it is: https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/slippery-slope
There is definitely a problem with having four slots though. With three you have the perfect amount: Enough freedom to accommodate a variety of possible tactics and roles, but enough of a restriction to force players to assess strategic options before a match.

No noes!
…yeah, two people can play that game.
Sure it’s a fallacy, but it isn’t as extreme as the example given in that link and it isn’t even that far off. Hell you could even argue that 5 slots makes more sense then 4, since it would allow us to have one of each class in our squad.
Anyway, I’m gonna try and make my other point…
With 3 slots per squad, in competitive you will at most see 15 different mercs per team (out of a current 18), this means that each team has to leave some mercs behind, and they have to leave even more mercs, if they want to have more then 1 of some mercs (example: having two sawbones, could be two rhinos on underground etc…)
Other then that, we know there’s at least two more mercs comming (1 recon and 1 engineer).
With 4 slots, in competitive they could then have a total of 20 mercs instead of the current 15, which would mean that they could have 1 of every merc in the game.
Being able to literally bring every merc in the game would be a case of “more is less” because as it is, you have to make some sacrifices.
I don’t want more than 3 mercs, what I want is more than 1 loadout for each of those mercs.

Which works well enough when you’re playing competitive and communicating with your team in teamspeak, but when was the last time you tried to ‘assess strategic options’ in a public server lobby?
If you can’t coordinate your party beforehand with the other 4 players something is wrong.
Instead of trying to change Rhino like this, just nerf him directly, he could use one.
Instead of increasing the merc slot from 3 to 4 or 5, I would suggest to have differents ‘decks’ to choose from, so I can have an public objective deck of three mercs for one specifik map, another deck of selected mercs for another map etc.
This way I dont have to change two mercs between every match.
What do you think?

He doesn’t need a nerf he is far from OP, he is probably one of the better balanced mercs, even a tad UP.
