this is an idea I had while on I was on a game against 3 vasillis. I think that merc limit (depending on the merc) will be good for teamwork cause that’s one of the things that ruined TF2 pubs for me (3 snipers 3 spies) maybe have like 1 vassili limit and two medics limit. I think it will add more balance to the game.
Merc limit.
And how do you propose the game decide which player gets to use their hard earned merc?
Any system that takes control away from a player is a bad system.
Period.
How would you feel if you couldn’t play your favourite merc because of a limit? Or you had people on your team filling the limit but were bad at their role?
On the one side I like it and would love to have it, but on the other side it would force people into playing someone they don’t want to.
I see only a one option for that to be in-game. When you have all mercs, you gain additional gamemode with that system.

Video games are basically a collection of systems that control what a player can and can’t do, so I’m going to have to disagree with your blanket statement.
I’ve had the same thought as the OP when I’ve had a team of 6 with 3 snipers or 3 phantoms but sadly it’d be a very hard thing to implement. Personally I try and switch to whatever the team requires but some people understandably want to use the new merc they just got or are in the mood for a specific class. These people may not be willing to ‘take one for the team’ and just quit out (and then complain on here :p) plus since you only have access to 3 mercs in the match, they may not have a class that’s much more suitable.
I definitely think encouraging more variety is a good thing but I’m not sure this is the way to do it. Perhaps instead the game could do a check and if it finds that there’s 3 of one class and no medic then it could give an XP bonus for someone who switches to medic.
I think they should limit snipers but not because it’s OP infact the opposite, pretty much every game i go in there’s always 2-3 vasilli’ and if 1 of them can aim i’m usually in shock.
The ammount of snipers I see in DB that blatantly can’t snipe and just throw the heartbeat sensor in the middle of the road to get insta gibbed is shocking.
Just came out of a game where the enemy team had 2, I was out shooting them on Bushwhacker with a KEK they did absolutely nothing to help the team.
I can’t snipe I know I can’t and my aim while alright isn’t the greatest so I play medics/engineers to help the team.
It’s getting really annoying seeing a team full of snipers incapable of doing anything on objective maps.
I get it. Playing against a team with 3 good Vassilis, a proxy, a sparks, and a nader was one of the most frustrating things I’ve dealt with in this game…
…but so was having 3 Auras who were either refusing to defib, or had no idea that was an option, and also had no clue as to what to do with their healing stations, forcing me to drag out my own…
Basically, it’s a double edged sword, but I feel it’s going to feel a bit sharper towards those who can’t play as the merc they want, which is probably the bulk of the player base.
And isn’t there a limit in comp? I don’t play it so I’m uncertain, but I thought I read somewhere that there is/might be, I dunno. Comp is a different story, as a merc limit would most likely add to the challenge.
Its too restrictive for public play. However, I think it would fit the comp format well. Problem is how to regulate players having the same merc in their squad but only have 1 at a time ingame. Just forcing people to pick 1 and stick with him the whole map is again to restrictive so that wouldn’t work either.
Competitive is bad enough when you face aimbotters and hackers and you can’t leave and you can’t even play your favourite merc there because it’s capped? I call that BS
in a comp u expect the team to have much better coms than in pub. so u just make it the rules and if a team messes up they are disqualified. make the rules. put the onus on the team to follow rules or pay the price.
so lets say the comp rules is: same merc limit set to one. Ie. Each team cant play multiple mercs at same time
So in this comp play example id assume it would be the team who decides who plays what. and stick to that. If the team fumbles, has 2 players being the same merc in game at same time, then thats on them for violating the rule set and they forfeit

People are stubborn. If two people want to use the same merc half of the times the team get punished because no one will back off (aka no judgement, but that’s to be expected right?). So this idea is terrible.
no they are in a team and that team is in a comp. IF they cant co-ordinate who is to play what they should not be in a team in a comp. A pre made team that doesnt have good coms should not exist.
Just a thought: u seem a little too invested in your opposition?? by comp i do not mean the bad matchmaking “comp” thing they want you to think is comp. thats not really comp. Im talking real comps with real set teams.

Except you get in a team with matchmaking, you are not putting a group of people and play together. What you said is true for clans, which aren’t in this game. People that get in a team randomly will not give up on using their favourite merc most of the times. And that’s fact. As for teams that join a competition, they should be able to coordinate merc choice without any need for a limiter.
As annoying as it can be to see certain people not using a class properly, it is likely they may not even use the other mercs in their squad properly either so forcing them to be someone besides a sniper I don’t think will really change too much in regards to those people.
