so i entered this server and saw this

of course, i just went “fuck that” and pulled out my gun, and of course, they tried to kick me, took 4 or 5 tries and there was 1 guy that wouldnt vote yes, so there’s hope yet.
(i also went ahead and switched classes every few rounds so they wouldnt recognize me at first glance XD)
gunfighting kamikaze melee people was surprisingly hard, though, doubly so since my dumbass team didnt bother helping me.

I greatly enjoy melee only, and wish people who didn’t want to do it would just leave. :frowning: It’s so rare that it happens.

Yes, it’s quite rude that people think that they control something that they simply don’t.

If they’re cool about it I’ll leave and let them be, but if they threaten to kick I’ll just ruin their game, especially since you can cancel a vote kick against you (if you know how).

And yeah, melee only can be fun, but only if you know beforehand. It sucks when you join a lobby with no quick slash, chopper or phantom equipped, you’re at a massive disadvantage.

Melee only is part of the Dirty Bomb honor system. If you see someone drop their weapon and pull out their melee at the very beginning of the fight, you have to respect that code! I follow this code for anyone that challenges me, no matter what. XD

Melee only is stupid and unbalanced as hell. Since the different melee weapons are…Different. Katana dominates. And Kukri is insanely bad.
Happened to play it once. would not recommend unless you play Proxy/Aura/Sparks.
Only way I would enjoy it if everyone plays the same, mediocre speedy merc.

Aura and Sparks especially, plus Phantom of course.

People use Phantom’s cloak which makes it really unfair.

The speed on Sparks and Aura just makes it so damn hard to win in a melee battle against them unless you’re using Phantom. I normally leave lobbies like that unless my friends are in it.

I once joined an attempt at setting up a Melee Only game.
But the guys had a funny rule: “If somebody shoots, penalize him by shooting back.”

The whole Melee thing lasted all of 20 seconds before people were “penalizing” violators on either side. :dizzy:

I’ve always found it kinda saddening to see very “try-hardy” organized melee-only / class-only, younameit-only events… It loses the spontaneous humour that comes naturally from exactly situations like full teams realizing at some point they all have cricket bat loadouts and just going for the heck with it, bashing each other’s skulls out for brief while before gettin’ back to objective plays. My goodness is it even funnier seeing 3 people slicing EV with Katanas.

If it happens, it happens and sure I’ll join it.

Yay, enemy switchs to meele so you do aswell just to see that he switched to weapon again and kills you.

For the meele only part, i encountered it a few times aswell and always people pick a good meele merc+loadout and then call it out while other are running 3 mercs with little kids knife and no augument. (Redeye with double meele aug is pretty much broken in meele only because you can pretty much win any 1vs1 by just stick to the enemy and make use of your hp and the fast slashes dealing enough damage due to aug.)

Not to mention that those phantoms still use their ability but cry if i go fragger and use my ability. (Same for those who pick Aura and sit under their health station, Sparks health packs etc.) The funniest thing i ecountered was a match where abilties like phoenix, phantom, aura, sparks and mines (while you werent allowed to shoot these mines) were allowed while all things like laser airstrike etc werent. (Because hey, the ones who said this had proxy, phantom and auras)

It can be fun but some people have yet to get the meaning of the word “only”.

Yeah, shame on them for not trying to ruin the fun for everybody like you did. You are a true hero of our time though, and people will write songs and poems about you until the last server gets shut down.

Honestly, I love melee only. It is a lot of fun with the right group of people. That being said, you can’t reasonably expect people on a public server to want to do this. More of a thing for a private server or a community server whenever we get those.

Sure, it can be fun. But when the one server with open spots is taken over by people shouting “MELEE ONLY!!!” it really annoys me.

I really like melee only fights. This doesn’t change the fact you can’t just take over a public server and tell other people how they are allowed to play. When everybody agrees it’s ok, but forcing people to play by your rules is not. You can always take a group of people interested in this kind of gameplay and play private match, without interrupting others.
