megatexture and your harddrive.

will poor little me have to ditch my 40gig sissy HD just for quake wars :*( ?

i don’t have much worries about the system specs, but… when paul was interviewed by gamespot he said that the things were GIGS big? noooooo!

(RosOne) #2

I’m pretty sure the game will require ~7GB disc space.

Map textures are around 5gb per map, compressed to 500mb. With ~12 maps, it’s 6gb for textures only. So it’ll be big, but not 40gb. Maybe around 8gb or 9gb.

(Looks at free HDD space) 200 GIGs ought to do it. :slight_smile:

I think the 500 MB number was for the map texture. Not for the vehicles, sky, models, buildings, etc…

My guess is about 10-11 GB total. Still, not too bad. :smiley:

10 gig not bad?!

Wolf:ET is only 250 odd meg in total!

(SniperSteve) #6

Wolf:ET is an old game, built on older tech. (I believe its the Q3 engine?)

(MadMattUK) #7

Look at the bigger picture. Most ET maps are under 10mb in size, and most people won’t even wait for 20 seconds or so to download a custom map in ET.

Think what it’ll be like with 500mb + maps :frowning:

Dedicated map servers ::THUMBS-UP::

(MadMattUK) #9

If only, most people still insist on the same boring 6-maps/supply depot/TC base crap

oh man, I wish they used kilotextures. Are they going to release this beast on 2 DVDs?
