Medieval Temple

(Gir) #1

I am redesigning Temple, to fit a Medieval Theme (based on wf_temple_b13 source)

What are peoples Opinion on Rain, It does not effect my FPS or my Gameplay, and i think it looks cool, not sure why people hate it?

I was also Thinking of Foliage, its a feature that many mappers seems to Neglect

I have Changed the Theme from Desert to Medieval/Castle Style, which are my Favourite Type of Maps.Desert Maps being My least Favourite, because Desert Textures look Really Ugly and Dull and just don’t fit right on most maps.

It took a few days to Rewrite the Shaders to make the Map more Medieval Style,

I also need to Redesign some the Egyptian Like Buildings

Rain and foliage take away FPS also foliage provides cover unless you are talking about grass, then it’s not used because of the FPS.

It would be more interesting if you made your own map from scratch, kinda boring seeing another mlb_temple_b5_v4_1_z9
2 cents

I Already have Maps two maps that I am designing, but some people asked me for a New Temple, but this time around, i want the Map to have a different, and a more professional look

(macbeth) #4

i agree
but we told already at Mew on our site

You can turn off rain anyway if it does affect your FPS, keep it in.

IMO, if you do a medieval version, you’ll need to remake all the buildings… Because romans invaded Egypt and not the inverse, you can’t have a Europen egyptian buildings, or it depends if you want something a minimum realistic?

And well I agree with Stealth6. But if you modify it enough you’ll not have just “MLB Temple + WF Modification + Rain + European style”.

I reverted Most of my Original WF Modifications and deleted all the Obelisks, I have Already Added a Medieval Church, and will Redesign the Entire Temple, I might Actually be Lazy and replace the Temple with Castle Wolfenstien from the Escape1 Source hehe

Be creative, and your map will be more popular  Add new gameplay possibilities, optimize it well, and you’ll be lucky with feedback

I’d put the rain and foliage in - players can always turn them off from the console or with a toggle key binding.

cg_atmosphericeffects 0 or 1 for the rain (or snow).

r_drawfoliage 0 or 1 for the foliage (grass).

You may have to tweak your shaders some - the fade distance for the foliage is important on large open areas because it may abruptly end where you don’t want it to when being viewed from a distance or sniper scope.

(Gir) #10

Here’s a Foliage Example, The Frame rate are Terrible . I Guess when Splash damage Lost RTCW2 Funding, they could not be bothered to Optimised there Foliage Technology , and we are left with what could of being.

(Mateos) #11

Strange. I’ve the foliage fade on my map to 4096 without issue, stable 125 FPS on soem areas… But haven’t look for verts yet, and soem areas need hint/skip.

Alcatraz has some foliage sectors, it is also opened. Sure without fog it would be 10 FPS >.>

(Fluffy_gIMp) #12

Hmmm, I’m pretty sure we didn’t ever work on RTCW2

As for FPS issues with foliage, it was something we added to the game quite late on in development so it’s possible. But I would guess it’s probably more an issue of how much you are using rather than the system, it was never designed to cover massive areas. Do you still have issues in the Radar map?

(.Chris.) #13

Someone made some ‘simpler’ foliage models that help a bit and when I used them wide spread on my scene map the FPS didn’t take a great hit so I would assume on a ‘proper’ map it shouldn’t have that great of an impact.

Foliage models are discussed here

The Screenshot Above uses those Same Foliage Models, and the Map is Rayban’s Foliage Example map

Also r_drawfoliage is Cheat Protected

Radar is the Worst and thus most Servers never play it

Here is a Benchmark in did

My Specs are Phenom II X4 955 Quad Core + Radeon 5770

Radar @ 1024x768 (Video Quality: High)

Rader (Foliage+Rain) Avg:20-40 FPS
Rader (w/o Foliage/Rain) Avg: 125 FPS

Radar (Foliage+Rain+ Air-strike) The FPS Shortly Drops to 1-10 FPS

(.Chris.) #15

Don’t use it then.

Lol, I love how this thread starts with:

and get’s to this:

Why did you even bother asking

(Gir) #17

I Optimsed the Foliage and I managed a Steady 60Fps

(Mateos) #18

What about standing up and looking further? Same FPS rate?
