Medicage exploit?

(Coolhand) #1

Someone a while back claimed that medics don’t get experience for reviving teamkilled teammates. I took that at face value (I don’t pay much attention to points).

But the other day I was playing an Axis medic on Fueldump, defending the dump. The Allied offense was almost non-existent, and I watched as an engy on our side planted mines, ran over them, and was revived by a friendly medic. Over and over again. With nothing better to do, I started competing with the other medic for the honour of reviving this mad engy.

Next thing I knew, I was at level 4 first aid. So it seems to me as though a medic does get XP from reviving in this way. Looks like an exploit to me, and one that can potentially ruin the game. I can just see all the pointwhores dashing off into a corner to become supermedics in no time, and all the apologists saying “it’s all about balance, it’s in the game therefore it’s OK to use it”… :frowning:

Hopefully this exploit will be fixed in the patch. If i do see this happening i would be forced to try and stop them by calling a vote or last resort tk them.

  • Edit -

I just tried this with my bro and he didnt get any exp for reviveing me on my mines.

No, it works. I had an engie that was triping over his own mines on oasis. After the second revive I found better things to do, but I did get XP for the revives and med bags I gave him.

heh - I hope you called a vote on yourself

Interesting that it didn’t happen to you when:

Bummer. If this happened to Jack but not to Vengeance could it be a server-side setting?

Just guessing here, but: could it be that although it may be true (?) that you don’t get XP for TKs, if an engineer runs over his own mines then this isn’t classed as a TK so the medic does benefit?

I’d guess they missed mines, because revivng people killed by normal weapons does not give you XP. Falling would probably work as well.

In any case, you also get XP for giving packs, no matter who caused the injury. So you could have an LT and med, with the med shooting the LT and the LT dropping packs for the med, and both get lots of XP. I wonder if you get battle sense if it is only teammates shooting in the area ?

Bleh.

teamkilled players will not give medics XP… however if they kill themselves then it’s apparently alright.

I’ve never used it as an exploit but when I’ve somehow found myselves in servers with FF off, and I’m down to minimal health usually I’ll throw a grenade near me, so I kill myself to get usually a full health raise. Kinda out of the way but hell… why not.

Perfect example of how XP can and will be exploited, especially in Clan games where players will have no hestitation in exploiting anything that isn’t strictly prohibited in the rules of the league/ladder they’re competing in.

Furthermore, I’m interested to see so many people are now assuming there’s going to be a patch. They’re talking about it as if it’s a foregone conclusion. Everyone assumed the full version of E.T. would allow the XP system to be switched off for Clan games, but they were wrong. Where has this rumour come from that there’s ever going to be a client patch?

I recall seeing one of the SD people hinting that a client patch may be in the cards (can’t recall who it was, though). I for one am not expecting one: it would be unreasonable to expect SD to put even more effort into something that has been made available for free.

If there is going to be a patch, it makes sense to try to identify whatever problems there may be in this otherwise fine piece of work so that there’s a chance of having them fixed. Personally, I don’t mind putting my own time into this… seems only fair payback (although it seems there are some who would rather I just STFU  )
