Medic does Soldier better than Soldier

(KAS--Will) #21

Medics are good in combat, and despite soldiers not having the advantages of a medic, trust me, using a Molotov against a medic is devastating, medics can only throw a dinky grenade back and tank about 2 shots at most more than a soldier (not buffed). I guarantee you if we 1 v 1 me as a soldier could take you on as a medic, buffing, and even if I gave you the opportunity to revive yourself.

(Om3ga) #22

Yea, well you need soldier if you want win game. And this is team game.

(fearlessfox) #23

OP is a fanboi.

A soldier with scavange can work the fringes of a battle like no other class. His grenades can take down massive groups of enemies, and his near infinite stockpile of ammo when coupled with his other abilities grants him just as much survivability as the medic. Remember, we have regen health, and if you don’t get hit you don’t need to heal.

I’d imagine that a lot of people who think the solider is lesser haven’t bothered investing in the class or just die too often without turrets and heals.

(Kendle) #24

I’m not sure if it’s just the fact the game’s new, but I’m not seeing Medics being the best soldiers just yet.

In ET they certainly were, which was always a bug bear of mine. As an oldskool RTCW Medic who plays the class “the right way” I hated the fact Medics became the de-facto soldier in ET and hope they don’t become so in Brink, but it’s too early to tell at the moment IMO.

(fearlessfox) #25

It’s too early to tell if people will start to rely on Medic too much for their ability to self res and heal, but /right now/ it’s obvious that Soldier is a much more capable damage dealer.

If you can avoid getting shot more, then Soldier > Medic for frontline and fringe survivability and pain dispensing.

The classes medic/soldier are good the way they are. I gotta admit however that I have not played as soldier yet but I can see what good players can do with flashbangs and molotovs.

But the problem I am often facing is that there are no good soldiers on the team. You can clear a choke point much more easiliy with a good soldier and a medic buffing his HP when he is close to incapacitation. Often I find myself having to do the soldiers job as a medic which is really annoying. I mean I have to rush in and try to take out as many people guarding the obj as possible. Right now it sometimes works out but as people will get better at this game it wont anymore. A soldier with flashbang is way better for this task but I fell like a lot of people fear getting killed maybe? For that very reason there are no K/D ratios shown so that poeple dont have to care and just throw a flashbang and rush in no matter what, because at some point you have to do that. In this game it almost never works to slowly push meter by meter, you gotta rush in.

(Butcher Rabbit) #27

The main character I use is a Medium Soldier/Engineer hybrid (but mostly soldier) at level 16. What I have noticed playing as a soldier is that lone-wolfing it for me is a very bad thing to do (frankly, I think it’s a bad thing for anyone to do in general). So yay for team play lol. I’ve noticed that medics seem to be able to get into and move through a firefight better, probably due to the joys of self buffing and revive. I’ve also noticed that medics can’t really sling the damage. They don’t get multiple grenades per pass like a soldier. They don’t have armor piercing rounds. A soldier’s damage output never changes depending on if the enemy has kevlar or not thanks to that perk.

So, the short version:
Soldier: Bigger, badder, more grenades all at the same time. Armor piercing negates kevlars = same speed kills across board.
Medic: Self revive, and self health boost, but those extra pips aren’t there to help a medic dish damage.
Best assault class: Soldier.
Best play style: Soldier + Medic + Engineer + Rest of Team

The question isn’t: are medics better than soldier?

The question is: is a mix of soldiers and medics better than all medics?

The answer is obvious.

(Ghostdog) #29
To feel the infinite power of Soldier you need to get to 20, go Medium and grab a noobtube powered assault rifle. The nades you shoot have the same stats as the nades you throw and in the soldier’s case, they hit harder, hit wider and refresh faster.
 Last time I looked, the tooltip for the grenade upgrades (aoe and dmg) stated that they only applied to thrown grenades not launched ones irc. If that’s wrong, then I’m probably going to be respeccing my level 20 (again).

(Rally) #30

What that means is the Lobster and EZ Nade will not receive the buff. The launcher attachment is still the regular frag grenade, only it explodes on contact, and as such gets buffed from those abilities.

It really makes the class. I used to use the Lobster as my primary weapon, and doing this is just so much more powerful. I dont have the ability to spam people out of a room (such as people hacking the final objective on Resort), but well placed one can end up killing multiple people in the room. Follow it with a flash and molotov, room=empty.

It really brings the power people expect out of the class. The ability to be the first one in, and make sure their the only one that comes out. Its also really powerful for leading a push, and when people see the kill feed say your name, followed by 4 kills from a grenade, usually they will follow you out of the spawn.

Sweet. Think I’ll run a new soldier primary (rather than respeccing my lev 20 which is engineer primary, soldier 2ndary).

Btw I’ve read reports that the soldier Kevlar passive isn’t working - is that true?

(Rally) #32

Yeah, its best to basically max out soldier. You might want to stick with the Lobster while leveling up until you get the nade perks. Youll get a good feel for how the launcher attachment works with it, though its still different.

Its also a decent way to get a good amount of XP. Knock downs are worth a lot, and you can score multiples with each Lobster grenade.

I too thought the grenade skills only affected hand tossed frags. I checked it out for myself earlier by slapping an underbarrel grenade launcher on the Gerund instead of my usual front grip, and went into the Be More Objective challenge. As soon as I saw the first grenade impact and explode I was left with my mouth agape for a moment. It quickly turned into an evil grin as I realized what kind of havoc I could cause with my new toy.

Are Soldier’s granade buffs applied to molotov?

(Bakercompany) #35

When I run out of ammo, I don’t want to be healed…

(Auzner) #36

Soldier gets a faster grenade charge ability which makes grenade launcher mounts more fun. If you try that as medic you’ll be caught in situations where you can’t revive anyone. Handing out ammo isn’t always as important.

(Houd1n1) #37

I will try to find an answer to my question one more: Are Soldier’s granade buffs applied to molotov?

(Inofor) #38

At least all the soldier skills say that they do not apply to special grenades, meaning molotovs and flashbangs.

(Nefarious) #39

I eat medics alive.

The molotov is a instent CQC knockdown and group knock down.

Upgraded nades are beast. Can disable a turret and put it down to like 20% life. And can wreck groups of dudes.

Here is a nifty combo
Flashbang Blinded/Grenade tick tick tick/Molotov knockdown/then Large Scale Grenade goes boom/Shoot and clean up the mess of low life% survivors.

And as far as Medics reviveing themselves only works on noobs. I see a medic icon on a guy I put them down. no chances.

And scavange.

Extra Mags.

Ammo replenish self.

Soilders dont really need anyones help. Medics are just lucky SMGs are overpowered in this game and come with 3x the ammo then ARs or else they wouldint be much of anything other then a …medic.

(xdc) #40

go medic with increased supplies, try and get command post for +supplies

when spawned immediately buff players, go around buffing/reviving till you’re out. Then rush enemy trying to get as many kills etc, don’t bother buffing yourself, and try not to live long so you can die with pips/supplies at full. Die and Repeat.

easily got 18.5k XP doing thing:

so if your having trouble leveling, this will get you to lvl 20 in allot fewer games, kinda lame that I have to die purposely to restore pips faster
