Maybe some of us should take a break from DB

(n-x) #1

I know a lot of people here have played the game since alpha or closed beta (I started shortly after open beta) and have put a lot of energy, thoughts, and ideas into this game. We all had a vision of what DB could or should become and the earlier in the development phase the more you could think “yeah, this will turn out how I was hoping” or “it will just take a bit and then they will implement feature x”.

But let’s be realistic. DB is on the home stretch and with that chances are getting slimmer and slimmer that this game becomes the game a lot of people hoped it to become in the beginning. In the last few months development picked up speed, lot of final changes are being made and the game is closing in to its (at least temporarily) final form. And a lot of older players are not happy with what they see and thus in every second thread there is a complain about this and about that. But those complains are hardly new.

-Ranked is broke af this season? We complain about it. SD is assuring that Ranked is the heart of DB and blablabla and they really, really, really want to focus on it. Does this sound familiar? Because this happens since Season 1 without any significant changes.
-Everybody is annoyed by Proxys suicide pan cake delivery. The solution to this, that mines should only be shootable after they have been armed, has been suggested months ago, yet SD starts to fumble around with the explosion radius.
-View kick: nobody asked for it; nobody liked it, when it was introduced; nobody wants to keep it. Instead of removing it, what do they do? They start to tweak.
-DB was announced as a competitive game, in which you can compare your skills with others. Guns get fixed by RNG.

I could continue this list endlessly, about pricing and RNG for money, the felt neglect of long time players, the more than dubious re-releases of “limited edition” the lack of communication with the community that is so important to them.

My point is. It has all been said. There is hardly anything new anyone could say to any topic that has not already been said. SD knows our opinion about any topic, be it from the competitive community, from the casual community or from the beginners. If they haven’t decided to make a certain change then bitching a fifth time about it won’t change anything. The whole community just becomes more and more toxic.

And here comes my final point, I wanted to get across way earlier: If you are a “veteran” or whatever you want to call yourself and you are not fine with whatever is going on with DB, take a break from the game until release. You won’t change anything. You are just getting frustrated. This game will with 99% certainty not end up like you imagined. So let it go. Come back when it is fully released and then decide if you want to play it or not. Everything else is just wasted energy and sanity for everybody involved.

That’s at least what I will do.

This may be a pot coal in the kettle black sort of thing, but, being immediately hostile to people probably isn’t the best way to get your point across.

The problem is that there is no place else to go, otherwise we would already have left. This is not voluntary. Dirty Bomb is the last train to the last stop on a route that has long been derailed, maybe even cancelled. This is it. I look at the future of FPS, and I am filled with emptiness.

CS:GO? Hate the gunplay. Overwatch? Garbage. Battlefield and Battlefront? Not too bad if I weren’t allergic to explosives and vehicle spam. Quake: Champions? Might be fun, but not squad-based. Call of Duty? Call of no. Lawbreakers? Dead. PUBG? Adequate “FP,” inadequate “S.” Planetside 2? Clunky af. R6: Siege? Instant TTK isn’t fun. Battalion? Watched a few streams, meh.

It’s a wasteland. FPS is kinda… dead.

This is the last FPS that kinda sorta truly emphasizes gunplay with middling TTK and squad-based gameplay.

Yesterday, I was in a match against a Thunder, a PDP Redeye, a PDP Vassili, a Grandeur Aimee, a Phantom and I think a Javelin. Hey Splash Damage, you tell me; how much fun does your telemetry tell you I had? Nearly the entire enemy team was composed of new mercs, and those mercs are all great, right? Right! New means fun!

It was a shit roulette where the prizes where being blinded, slowed, detected, debilitated, smoked or dead. Hug a corner to avoid snipers? Hi, invisible asshole Phantom. Luckily, the Javelin either always used her rockets on my teammates, or took pity and refrained. Either way, thank you unknown Javelin player.

That is the shitshow that Dirty Bomb is today. How is that fun for anyone. This game could have been great. Instead, every patch pushes it toward mediocrity. Players like me, we don’t want tactical gunplay. We don’t want stupid memes. We don’t want casual bullshit like OP shotguns. We want a good FPS.

But lawbreakers tweeted its not dead and they havent given up

Ranked is broke af this season?
Ranked can be broken. Reading all these post about unsuccessful experiences makes me wonder, if I have been extremely lucky with ranked matches. My best/most fun experiences are from ranked. I have rarely seen any in-game schism, especially in this season.
Everybody is annoyed by Proxys suicide pan cake delivery.
Not me. I have to admit that she is my most played merc.
View kick
I want to keep View kick. I think its reasonable that first shot get advantage. It will make HP gap smaller and support positional play. It’s the direction I would like to see more in future.
Guns get fixed by RNG.
There always was and will be RNG. The real question is the level of RNG people can tolerate. I think recoil chances didnt significantly affect it and for the sake of balance, it was needed. Only slight disappointment was burst rifle nerf back then, but it was reverted. The other disappointment was shotgun nerf, I think close combat 1htk was much more fun than corner wrestling. Someone may argue that 1 htk shotgun was more RNG before than now.

You forgot a big pain in my side that’s plagued me since Summer Squash III.

Don’t you dare to start talking about that stacking thing of yours.

It’s so fucking huge, even the developers are ignoring it…

it’s like 4 times now I asked? I’m done asking nicely… I’m stepping it up to the next level.

Yeah the aimpunch/viewkick thing still blows my mind. Back when there was a decent competitive scene, one of the comp players made a poll about how people would like aimpunch to be handled with the options being keep as is, reduce it, increase it, and remove it completely. Almost 300 people voted and 88% of the vote was for removing it completely, yet all we got was a slight reduction.

The only people I’ve seen in support of it are people who are too imprecise with their aim for them to even understand how it affects the gunplay in the first place. I’ve never seen any players that are actually capable of consistently popping heads who think it’s a good mechanic. With that said, some ET players recommended changing viewkick to a purely visual effect (would kinda be like having some screen shake) that can disorientate the player but doesn’t affect their aim or force them to track the upper body/neck because going for headshots is inconsistent. This is a solution that rewards the player for getting the first shot/having better positioning by disorienting the player getting shot and it lets people know that they’re taking damage but it doesn’t piss off everyone that likes tracking heads instead of having to default to easy upper chest/neck shots when playing against someone that can track.

I wouldn’t call 40% slight… How about we cut your pay 40%? its only a slight reduction.

I agree that the vets need to take a break, they are too quick to demean anything the developers do or talk shit because the devs didnt do something that they said would take time. It dosent take a rocket scientist to see that they are working their asses off to try to get the game finished.

I had my pay cut 60% after a company take over not fun but it did get me a grant for college but at same time i also almost lost my car and home so i dont lile joking around about cutting peoples pay

(Xenithos) #13

The number one reason a community is active and complaining is mostly in part to their love of the game in the first place dude… Telling us to go leave or shut up doesn’t help SD realize they have a very vocal and loyal people.

(Nail) #14

people getting “triggered” over generic terms drives me crazy, analogies are just words, keep the drama away

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that roughly 40% of what they’re doing is unasked for bullcrap. Half the balance changes they do make no sense and are based primarily on numbers. The changes they make WONT do what they’re trying to make them do. Instead of balancing they cripple.

(Nail) #16

I don’t agree, I think they have a better idea of how to get the release they want,
they usually overestimate their audience, they relate to W:ET days but they make solid games, imo,or they wouldn’t do the “Gears of War” series or “Batman”

You do know that Gears of War 4 received some of the most hate ever seen in gaming history. If you thought DB Forum/Reddit was bad, you ain’t seen nothing.

But this comment was not meant for @Nail

Just so you know op
