Max lvl 20 is a rip off

(H3LLS1) #61

don’t knock all of us XBL guys because of the OP.

The perfect game was L4D

(Kryhavok) #62

You completely failed to factor in abilities. Abilities alone give you at LEAST 5 different character combos.

(BeyondSpectrality) #63

Can I just say I re-read the OP and there is no way he did all the crap he said he did in two hours.

Plus his requests are just silly. I hope this troll trades the game in and then goes back under his bridge.
I would argue that your claim is decidedly untrue in this instance. Splash Damage didn’t make the leveling process in Brink a long or difficult one for good players. The fact that one can hit level cap in less than a day’s worth of playtime (if you are sufficiently determined) illustrates this.

In the instance of Brink, the Leveling system seems more geared toward easing players into the gameplay mechanics and the interplay and specialization of classes.

If everything were unlocked and available from the outset, the sheer variety would be overwhelming, and deciphering actual in-game interactions would introduce yet another incredibly steep learning curve to overcome. I know that I found the game confusing at first, even with a solid personal background in First-Person-Shooters.

Brink is a multi-layered game where, in addition to a basic level of proficiency and a clear understanding of the objective, there are multiple nuances in terms of how a player can go about achieving the task at hand. In fact, Brink is so deep and so fast-paced that it can actually be quite difficult to figure out what is actually going on at times or what you should be doing. Even when you clearly understand your purpose there is a frenetic level of urgency and pacing that can make the gameplay seem overwhelming in Brink.

Leveling in Brink seems to be mostly about decreasing the difficulty of the learning curve, because there really doesn’t seem to be much of an immersive, deep, or compellingly repeatable process beyond the unlocks that you can achieve on your first play through (IMO).
…What?! What did I claim? All I said is that the only reason why developers should include levels in their FPS games is to show how long they have been playing that game or how experienced they are! That way, a level 1 who has no idea what they’re doing would receive less criticism in a game than a level 50 who messes up a simple objective. I’m not saying that that’s how they actually are… I’m saying that how it SHOULD be. I didn’t claim anything.

Yeah, I read that and thought, “Darn I’m old.”

You will all be happy to know I have officially taken brink out of my console and put it on the shelf with other garbage games. I also signed back up for gamefly so as I don’t get ripped off like this again.

(Oschino1907) #68

Hahahahaha yeah i feel you, even though i started very young my earliest FPS moments def involve Wolfenstein 3d, Doom and Doom 2, Shadow Warrior, Golden Eye 007, Perfect Dark etc… I played those like crack before online was even an option for me, lol i can still memorize alot of the Doom cheat codes off the top of my head.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #69

Dude no one cares. All your recent posts, you act like people care. The only reason I’m responding is because I’m trying to be nice and stop you from wasting your time. No one cares. Ok, you have officially taken Brink out of your console… why are you still here??

(Dopaminergic) #70

Try to sell it on eBay. If you sell to Gamestop you will be ripped off majorly. Surely you don’t want to be ripped off two times in a row over one game!

(Coolaguy) #71

Not trying to piss you off… I was trying to offer my insight on the matter…

I hate to do this, but…

Claim
Definition: An assertion of the truth of something, typically one that is disputed or in doubt.

Followed by…

The above is your claim.

I get your point.

You clearly don’t get mine…

I am basically disagreeing with you opinion, because (in my opinion) the purpose of Levels in this case has very little to do with denoting experience of the player in question and far more to do with establishing a realistic learning curve (i.e. training wheels) for players.

The closest Splash Damage comes to establishing relative player experience through indicators (i.e. ranks, levels, symbols, gear, etc.) is that low level characters of established players can be tricked out in outfits beyond their apparent character rank (e.g. one of my Lvl 1 characters has the outfit of The Freak).

In Brink, Level 20 isn’t a prestige, it’s a training-wheels-off mode where all kits, weapons, bodytypes, and abilities are fair-game.

I agree with Splash Damage’s design choice, in so far as gameplay. However, I don’t see why they couldn’t throw the CoD-types a bone by offering them more trinkets and ‘prestige’ for repeatedly grinding through the levels over and over (i.e. some type of exclusive, elusive gear that is only unlocked after achieving some benchmark level of experience or levels gained).

Likewise, I acknowledge the merit of your argument, which hinges upon the idea that Levels can, in some instances, serve as a reliable indicator of player experience and can be helpful (to experienced players) in accounting for the apparent skill of teammates and opponents.

(However, and this is really another discussion entirely, once most players hit the Level Cap, the Level Cap no longer serves as a reliable indicator of Player Skill. In such instances, I think ELO-based matchmaking is the best way to ensure consistently competitive and fun gameplay for players, matching player of equal skill against one another.)

Wait for the next trade bonus promotion.

I got 40$ for Black Ops when I traded it in not too long ago. I’ll be doing the same with Brink.

(H3LLS1) #73

/care

(StillBatusBrad) #74

^^ This. Start again at lvl1 and a new class-mix. New maps in June, they say. You should have 4 to level 20 by then, according to you:tongue:

Level 20 in 2 hours play - LMAO.

(StillBatusBrad) #75

Really? I like pizza, me. Fascinating, and so many seem to care.

(raib) #76

FPS’s shouldn’t have character leveling to begin with. It’s a cheap attempt at increasing replay value. What is really making this game get old fast for me is that gunplay has no depth and takes no skill, maps are heavily defense favored and the only body/weapon setup you ever need is lightcarb. Basically once you hit level 20 with enough characters to play any class effectively, the only thing to work toward is gone.
