master list display?

(sneak) #1

So I am having issues getting my host to allow me to run custom binarys for ET. I wanted to run ET 3.00 but they aren’t allowing it at this time.

I’d like to get my servers on both lists, but I don’t understand what I must do. There has to be some other method besides doing that etmaster.net thing, which would require each client to have a special modification to see the list. I don’t have any modification and I see several servers in the list, who don’t even run a special binary.

So what’s the big secret to getting on the list? I run five enemy territory servers and only one is on the list.

(Patriotqube) #2

Can be done with a serverfacade --> http://equalone.freeunix.net/index.php?index=2

(sneak) #3

thanks but my host isn’t allowing custom binary

(Dragonji) #4

Change your host then.

(Smurfer) #5

I agree with Dragon, sneak. You have several problems with your host, and they are making money on you. On ET.
Change to a vps, it’s a lot cheaper and better. Don’t be afraid of dealing with linux, just use google. One of the longest threads in existence is about Ubuntu and ET, it has all info you will ever need. With a vps you can decide yourself how many slots the server has, how much ram, what mods to run, etc etc.
Also, no one is making money because you like ET.

(cheesy) #6

Sneak,

Annoying how people just recommend moving hosts rather than provide a solution to the problem.

All you need is to provide your provider a list of fixes that ET 300 fixes and link them to the site which lists all the information on the binary and changes. Reopen ticket. Explain that this is needed for the security of your server. GS will eventually comply, trust me I know, I have done this many times.

Its because not enough admins know about this binary, including game hosts. They are wary about loading just any binary that may cause them a flury if support tickets.

Link them to
http://filebase.trackbase.net/et/server/et300_README.txt (documentation)
http://filebase.trackbase.net/et/server/et300 (download)

Put the file in the directory for them, so it is ready to go.

Once they switch out the file, you will have to allow the execute permissions for it to work.

From that point forward, you will have access to replace the file in the future without asking them.

Note:
not sure if it a problem with the last development or intentional, but I tested the windows binary for et 300 and the server only appears for 2.60b clients. 2.55 clients can only connect manually, but the server will not appear.

(Smurfer) #7

Annoying how people think there’s any way in HELL I am changing ANYTHING to suit the need of [some private money-company] making money on ET. Not even if they promised me percentages.

(cheesy) #8

That’s fine, but he did not open up a thread on game servers versus some crappy vps solution. He wants a facade, and I am simply letting him know it is possible with gs as long as he makes the right request. They will not respond to a vague request to switch server binaries, I know this because I have dealt with this before.

(Patriotqube) #9

afaik serverfacades can be run from another site or even your homepc, so there is no need to change binaries. unless you want to use the trackbase ones

(cheesy) #10

@ Patriot

when you say “the trackbase ones” which binaries are you refering to?

(Mateos) #11

Hmm… The ones provided by the tracker Trackbase?

(cheesy) #12

Sorry, I was not aware of these binaries, but then again I never really shared in interest in trackers other than gametracker.

Put

set sv_master0 "etmaster.idsoftware.com"
set sv_master5 "master0.etmaster.net"

And you should be on all lists

If you want to be on both the 2.55/2.60b list you can either use ET 3.00 or use the server facade on the same server you are running your gameserver on, note that this last method has flaws (for 2.60b only you will get redirect messages, for 2.55 proxy the users ip will be the proxy ip, so you can’t ban them or you ban all users connecting through facade).

I hope this answers your question

I have only one problem, and it’s the lack of allowance for custom binary. They aren’t making money on me, I’m already on a VDS but I didn’t feel like messing with all that stuff so I got their version of “managed” which is a control panel. But when I do that I dont have full access to the server. “No one is making money because you like ET” - Explain this some other way because I have no idea what you’re saying.

I never said I am on GS, I was on GS and I did get them to to let me run ET 3.00, but they won’t upgrade glibc for the newest etpub release so I switched hosters :/. That download link you provided me, does it spam players who are on .55 client? Some guy on xfire told me that the official release had some kind of spam in it.

Already have this in all my server cfgs, does not work:

set sv_master1 "etmaster.idsoftware.com"
set sv_master2 "master0.gamespy.com"
set sv_master3 "wolfmaster.idsoftware.com"
set sv_master4 "clanservers.net"
set sv_master5 "master0.etmaster.net"

I was told already they would look into it but this is what the host said:

It will have to be at a lower priority than any issue that affects multiple customers, though, which means it may be a fairly extended amount of time. You might have to consider running your server as unmanaged if you need something in the short term.

(cheesy) #15

@ sneak
The last I checked, the latest etpub works on gs, I hope this does not become a problem again with glibc that is too new

@ Paul
any chance of there being a cvar to toggle on/off the auto update of the binary, and also the .55 nag message?
that way admins have 100% control

I would gladly donate $ for this et 300 cause

Latest stable works (0.9.1). I run 1.0 r477 which does not work.
http://www.etpub.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=64

Which linux should I request from host? Ubuntu?

It’s probably due to an old glibc, they need to add the new glibc as well.

(Dragonji) #18

We want to get rid of 2.55 clients, don’t we?

(cheesy) #19

I think Paul more-or-less answered the question with all that white space.

regarding the etpub binary, I will compile the linux files with older glibc and post on etpub.org
not a big deal, this is easier than asking hosts to upgrade servers

someone there did make one of those for me but from what he said they won’t be doing that for stable release. Anyway These are my options for OS:
