Marketing, ET:QW Figurines?

(Ewog) #1

my first post here. the search button works great, most of my questions are answered by searching, hence the “1st post”

I searched the forums for “figurine” to see if anything was mentioned and I found a few entries regarding the Pewter Figurines that were a part of the D3 collectors edition, but nothing much on the upcoming ET:QW.

Is this something that has been looked at, as far as a Collectors Edition of the game? (I’ll understand if you can’t say anything at the moment)

Or, Has SD looked into possibly marketing with some 6-8" tall action figures after the release of QW?

I know it’s not a big deal to most people, and I am far from a collector of figurines, but I would buy the whole set if Quake Wars had them. Kinda like the same reason why I would love to have an original VF-1A fully articulated cast aluminum Robotech Figure, and why I do have an original copy of Quake still in pristine condition. It’s all in the personal value of the time spent with a game/hobby.

Anyway, thought I’d post this for food for thought. Just an idea…

*nudges id, Splash Damage, and Activision for some marketing plans.

I’m not a collector myself, but I wouldn’t mind a miniature Strogg “melty-face” Oppressor on my desk while I play. :stuck_out_tongue:

A collector’s editions for a (non-MMO) multiplayer-only action game seems sort of odd. Not that there’s anything particularly wrong with it… it’s just that ETQW won’t have significant cinematics to put on a DVD or an extensive soundtrack to put on a CD. Some stuff comes with shirts or posters too, I guess. My personal favorite bonus is an artbook - like the ones Blizzard had for Warcraft 3 and WoW. Concepts and alternate art is always great to look at, but I guess there’s already a decent amount for ETQW already publicly released.

Theres a cheap figurine in my house that was bought in the pouns shop for a Pro Evo tourny prize. The guy looks near identical to a GDF Engineer. Will post a pic tomorrow as its in gringos room and I don’t think he’d appreciate me waking him up taking pictures of shit.

There was a decent range of Quake II figures - gladiator, Athena, dogs, etc. Pretty cool stuff

They can go with the bundling of older versions:

Quake4 SE had Quake2.
It’s either that again (but with music done right)
or maybe now we can get Quake3?

(Nail) #6

nah, it’ll come bundled with ET2, better graphics and bots, and the unreleased maps

(signofzeta) #7

no no no, here is what is will be bundled with

Wolf 3d
Wolf SOD
Wolf lost episodes
Quake 2
Q2 reckoning
Q2 ground zero
RTCW
W:ET
Quake 4
and of course ETQW

Everything both ET game were based off of.

It will also be bundled with all the quake 2 action figures and if you pay the more expensive price, it will come bundled with a uber cool graphics card for those who have shitty graphics card.

It will be bundled with a complete set of Battlefield disks:

BF1942, BF:V, BF2, BF2142.

You can choose what to do with them: frisbee, shoot a bullet trough it, using ot as coffee muck holder etc. etc.

Ofcourse it will come with a complete DVD of ET with all custom maps, the game, etpro etc. Also special content which was not compleded for the release of ET.

Lats but not least: A real tapir!

Damn. Ok. I wasn’t referring to a “Bundled” deal, but I can see where the topic got off on a tangent. I am just asking about the figurines because I know that there have been these types of things in the past and wondered if I should keep an eye out for them after game release. I personally think they would be a cool collection to have on my gaming shelf.

Anyway, about the “bundled” perpective on new releases: I don’t care, as long as I get the game. I would prefer a DVD than a CD, which seems to be the standard method of packaging nowadays anyways. Anything else that comes in the package is just extra. (manual/keyboard cutout/cd case) haha. I’m sure QW will be stuck in my DVD drive for a very long time, who needs the case?

All these things are decided by our publisher, the lovely Activision. Which is just as well; if it were left to us, our notion of a collector’s edition SKU would be a tiny t-shirt that fitted the game box, with a little pocket filled with nail clippings. And a Pomelo. And some Rooibos tea.

(signofzeta) #11

how about some DNA evidence of the splash damage team? such as nail clippings, loose hair, loose skin, boogers???

(ayatollah) #12

Ooh Ooh I want!

(Bongoboy) #13

Can’t say enough good things about Rooibos tea. If I had my druthers, I’d give it a credit on the box, just below the game title.

(nUllSkillZ) #14

No pie?

(ayatollah) #15

You know that they can’t decide on a pie, I think they are leaning towards steak & onion. Or maybe thats me!

(McAfee) #16

What about the miniature RoboTapir ?

(Dr_Tenma) #17

Anyone remember those Final Fantasy XII Potions? The real life mineral drinks that came in a blue bottle sold in Japan only. If you’re going to ship food with ETQW, you might as well include a canister of authentic Stroyent - freshly siphoned from a GDF soldier’s brain.

(McAfee) #18

The Special Edition will feature a personal first aid kit, just like the ones featured in the game. Comes with everything you see here:

(signofzeta) #19

lol that was awesome.
I heard from some site and as a joke, there were going to be RTCW or maybe Wolf ET tins where it comes with a world war 2 allies or axis uniform.

(kamikazee) #20

I remember that one. It was a PlanetWolfenstein joke, but I can’t find it again.
