I think it depends on what happens when they explode and how much effort it takes to make them explode + the game mechanics (can I afford to waste my ammo / grenades?)
For instance in BF3 there is a map with an underground parking lot with multiple cars that can explode and it takes less than a magazine clip to make them do so. So I generally blow them up before I hide behind them, or hide a few meters from them.
If we want cars to explode maybe it would also be interesting to say when they should explode? Only explosive ammo? 2 clips? 3 bullets? do the windows smash separately?
I’m not really a fan of that idea, I’m all for artwork in the surroundings like in W:ET you had the dog barking so maybe we could actually get some dogs jumping at a fence in a secluded alley to scare the **** out of you. But actual stuff on the playing field should be scarce imo.
Unless we’re talking about TDM, I think my favorite TDM maps have some kind of external element like a huge crane in the middle that drops boxes on people or a lava pit etc… It’s funny when you’re in a fight with somebody and then they get killed by the environment.
However for other minor stuff I don’t see why not if doesn’t harm performance, being able to shoot chairs, bits of wood, notice boards and such in W:ET was nice little touch, would be cool to see that stuff again. I heard on IRC that the street cones can be shoot around though which is nice.
Other things such as moving objects around the map would be good to see also, perhaps the odd helicopter flying over and stuff like that would be welcome.
Exactly that small not really gameplay changing stuff is fun.
