Maps too static

(tokamak) #21

Yeah and not just like a short fluffy event but rather have the helicopter keep on circling the EV and flashing the light everywhere. That way both teams are constantly aware of where the EV is (of course the indicator is sufficient but it adds a more intuitive way of knowing the location).

(SockDog) #22

I agree but it should be a drone, Loki loves him some Quadcopter so why not that or would people scream CoD rip off?

(Dormamu) #23

Airstrike to destroy part of the buildings (visual) or set some of the buildings on fire , make those birds give a +1xp when you shoot them :D.
If you implement the helicopter with a searchlight on the EV, you can remove the Ev indicator on the hud.
on the second, third, etc spawn locations, the attackers will spawn by repelling from a helicopter
A mushroom cloud and a nuclear blast shockwave at the end of a map

+1 for bringing back from dust this topic
Yeah would be nice like the train that is trigger by the Ev position ,an helico could pass at low altitude running the spotligths at Ev approching the lift section

(tokamak) #25

You guys are going to love Camden.

(Volcano) #26

They already know what camden is like

(Hundopercent) #27

I would rather them focus on quality maps prior to adding this sort of stuff. It would be nice an all but who cares about this stuff if the map is trash. Every time I see white chapel load up I debate alt+F4’ing and taking a break.

(Whhaayy) #28

+1

nothing of that is needed for a competition shooter so pls dont insert something like this!

(ImageOmega) #29

I just want camden opened up to everyone! Who needs an art pass? =]

(INF3RN0) #30

Ugh I can only imagine the performance issues related to destructible environments that aren’t side-objectives. Simple things like more verticals, trick jumps, and more interactive design (windows you can jump through, ramps, ledges, etc) would spice things up plenty for me.

That’s generally how maps are made though… You don’t start with special effects first.

Yeah I agree, they should make DB out of simple blocks that are all one colour, the enemy should be a red rectangle and your team a blue rectangle.

If it makes the game enjoyable and competitive I don’t see why not. A game can look great but if no one is playing are you just going to run around the maps smashing windows looking at helicopters? GTA would be a better experience for you if that’s the case.

(tokamak) #33

This. I remember being already bothered by the blue cans in the first stage of Container City. Horrible.

Dynamic effects should be non-physical. So you can have the helicopter or drone float over the EV and aim it’s searchlight at random team-mates for the fun of it but as for the rest it wouldn’t have any effect.

Same goes for cars and stuff. They may spark when you fire shots at them because it’s a metallic material, but exploding them is bad. Especially because it’s only something that can be done once, then it’s just a nuisance.

A repetitive dynamic effect that would be tolerable is to let a train pass through Camden every once in a while. But that would mess with the background story I guess.

(.Chris.) #34

Nah, would result in accidental deaths, no one likes getting killed by the game, might be mildly amusing the first time but would get really annoying fast. Like the Magog insta deaths when you were no where near them.

The train on white chapel is a nice touch though, just stuff happening in the background whilst you’re fighting bring the game world to life. Additionally more scripted sequences like what are found in Camden is also welcome, I loved putting these in my ET maps, shame you couldn’t with ET:QW :frowning:

(Breo) #35

We know that those things aren’t nessesary, but selling games is basicly selling a entertainment experience. What we discuss in this thread is part of the quality of the maps.

Explain? How exactly making the environment more dynamic will effect the “competition shooter”? You can leave the maps the same like replacing a static car with a police car with flashing lights or something.

(.Chris.) #36

DB is made one one guy so the person making those flashing lights is the same person who is coding the movement and shooting mechanics, he should get his priorities straight!

(tokamak) #37

All a competitive shooter needs is bare geometry and hitboxes. Good luck with finding any players for that.

(.Chris.) #38

I’ve just made this ET:QW super competitive mod:

By adding the sun and clouds however the competitiveness of the mod dropped by 10%

I’m with you and chris on this. It is kind of preposterous to think that these little touches can’t be added without affecting anything else’s progress. Anything that adds to the games “character” and memorability is welcomed.

Cubic figures are a bit extravagant, why not sprites or vectors?
