Mappers Familiarality with ET:QW

(iwound) #1

Hi guy’s n guy’ettes like every1 else round here I’v been reading all about ET:QW. When i first read about The new MegaTexture technology it was like a nicotine hit too me. Basically my ears popped up. I think it could have been the mega possibly the new but ultimately it’s the idea of large outdoor terrain that pulled me in (SD accountant rolls hands muhaha). But what I’d like to know is how does this game feel like when i’m immersed inside an ET:QW environment. When the MCV or whatever it’ll be finally called, is deployed, how will i think, what is my priority; XP, the next target, my comrades (yeah right!)…(hang on a sec my comrades might rescue me when i’m 4km into the next goal and save me gettin a bus back) or do i think i’m the lone wolf who’s deep, deep undercover after possessing a body and going on a camping trip round the map, and taking out any stray newbs i can find and roasting thier head on a fire and wearing thier teeth as a necklace!

We can all have views on what it could be like, but we dont know until we’ve experianced it. Which brings me too my point. Ahem I’v noticed that SD kindlly invited some jounalists too look at the game, and then very kindly invited representatives of some related sites. What i’m suggesting is that SD could invite some map makers to SD and try the game out for themselves so they can really understand how the game feels and so better understand how to design a map for it.

I have no idea how the gameplay is going to work, there’s a hint of C&C generals: radar pickin up troop movements, mcv which changes your own prioritys in the game depending on its status, and I’v never really got into BF2 past watching a plane take out 20 people lined up on a beach. But ultimately i’m guessing so theres only 1 way to find out and thats play it. I think it could help the future ET:QW community which i think could be huge.
And BTW my tongue is firmly n squarly in my cheek! unless SD agrees! take care…

Well, not that I feel bad about the idea of showing ET:QW to some invited mappers, but who are you going to choose?
Semi-fictional examples: The “arcane” mappers like I would considder drakir? Tutorial makers like Ifurita or EB? Mappers who built highly popular maps like ginc did with SupplyDepot?

My point being, it’s impossible to fairly pick those lucky few from a massive community.

Put names on different pieces of paper. Put some honey on paper. Release ants. Wait 5 minutes. Enter tapir. The first three papers/names that get “picked” gets a free flights + hotel + trip to Sd to play game and tell them a little about how they should have done it instead.

Well i think loffy’s idea is the fairest butl we all know Loffy has one of those artic tapir’s that he trained himself to pick out his name from honey soaked paper.

i think SD might have more sinister reasons for letting jounalist types to play the game rather then just to show some people what it is like

eg advertising… more money… more tapir ninjas forthe SD army

It’s simple:

Invite bani, reyalP, the etpro development team, and other modders / scripters to a bring-your-own-lunch developers summit. Or maybe a “developers con” on the house. It’s not like this game isn’t going to go gold gold. I have a feeling it’s going to go Plutonium within a week. Sadly, the city of London will be lost in a tragic chain reaction caused by all the brightest minds in the civilized world getting together with that critical mass, but it’s a small price to pay.
