mapcoordsmins & mapcoordsmaxs

(*[SfS]*OpTeRoN) #1

I’ve done what these tutorials have told me to do with my mapcoordsmins & mapcoordsmaxs keys, but my map still crashes in limbo!

I don’t understand what the problem is! :banghead: :blah:

Why is it so much more difficult to make correct entities in ET than in RTCW? LoL

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #2

take a screen shot of your radient screen and post it. (with your map open and the grid picture zoomed out enough so that you can see all the area)

make ur mapcoords this -

mapcoordsmins -320 320
mapcoordsmaxs 320 -320

they have got to be square.

tell me if that works.

u have to make a brush that covers the entire map, so not just the inside of the map.

And no, u dont have to make a pefect square.
BTW, if u make the max and mincoordinates bigger then ur map, u gonna have a problem with ur command map, when u get near the edges of the map.

(*[SfS]*OpTeRoN) #6

Thanks! That worked!
But, I don’t understand why it’s 320?

And what has to be square?

BTW, Thej, it didn’t cover the whole map and it still worked.

But, when I add more rooms to the map, will the coordinates stay the same?

(Thej) #7

if the map gets bigger, u have to change the coordinates.
same as if u move the map around in the Z-view.

he means the coordinates of the map min- and maxcoordinates have to make a square.which is untrue btw.

(*[SfS]*OpTeRoN) #8

OK, so the corrdinates tell the engine how large my actual map is, not just a room though right?

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #9

nope - the coords get bigger,

-320 320
320 -320

on the grid is a sqaure.

It is best to keep it a sqaure because of command maps and tracemaps (more advanced stuff - dont worry about that stuff yet),

Just keep it square!

when you add more rooms - they will get bigger, so they could become

-1000 1000
1000 -1000

which is a sqaure.

Ah, now I understand, thanks guys!

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #11

 no problem  if you have any other queries pm me - i was in the same place as you on the date i joined. (not long ago at all)

(Thej) #12

Ok just to show u that the min and max coordinates done have to make a pefect square but have to cover the entire map itself, here are the coordinates from fueldump
“mapcoordsmins” “-13568 2048”
“mapcoordsmaxs” “768 -12288”

dont look like much of a square to me.

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #13

ye  but it is easier to keep it a sqaure

(Thej) #14

no, cause then ur command map is useless, causer the min and max coordinates are for the command map to let u know where u are on the map.

So go right ahead and make large square min and max coordinates then u get lost real easy

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #15

hmmm what happens if your map is sqaure anyway :open_mouth:

(Thej) #16

if ur map is square the coordinates are square to
but if ur map is say like on coordinates -9000 -5000 and -2000 -1000, its a bit strange the make the map coordinates -9000 9000 and 9000 -9000 isnt it.

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #17

yes - but i made my map so it would fit
mins : -5120 5120
maxs: 5120 -5120

which are optimum for command maps in my eyes since it is 10240x10240

(Thej) #18

ok, so for u this works, but not everyone works from the 0 0 0 origin of the editor, some move to the left, or right or bottom or top of the editor, to construct there map.

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #19

fair enough

thej hows your map coming along?

(Thej) #20

fine, but we are in a bit of a standstrill cause its way to fucking hot, so now im just working on optimising the fps in the outside area, got the r_speeds down from 30000 to around 19000 at the gate
