[map release] norwegian battery b6 (final beta)

HI ALL

I did never think I had to use this account anymore, but whatever as this place got many visitors, I desided to announce here so I can avoid that I announce at TWT, and someone write about the map and using TWT as source, then someone use them as source and them as source…
and everything is getting very confusing

Yeh and the map:

Norwegian battery was from the beginning supposed to be released at christmas but… when I heard about hinting I desided to delete everything and start from zero… as I already had announced that Norwegian Battery was coming I desided to make a new try… after a great number of tutorials was readed I started the first january

and now 18 weeks later, 18 weeks of HARDCORE work its finished…

Story: its the late summer of 1943 and the axis are loosing control overthe north sea. The allied has noticed that and a new power is growing in the allied forces. The allied high comand has desided to use the new mobility over the north sea to attack german bases in norway.
But before they can start the offensive they need to destroy a battery so they can get close into the rocky beaches with their battleships…

Mission: the allies need to unlock the battery with a keycard and then destroy the guncontrols.

My own comment: better than b5 and mouch better than b4…
B5 was a FLOW fix

B5 to B6:
*new grass thats split the area outside the east bunker entrence
*fixed commandmap text
*lower ambient, better feeling (ambient 10)
*gravity 790, makes you jump about 2 inches higher in etmain
*tested in n!tmod also (silEnT, no quarter)
*fixed the sky a little bit higher to allow 1 more trickjump

I was thinking about if I remember everything…

I did forget about the wayfiles!

Thunder maded them, so thanks to thunder, but he also said they where terrible, but… They will be enough til a dude from F/A give us better wayfiles :slight_smile:

Ive noticed:

Many persons (not only one)
are telling me that the map have few details, I will try to put more details and propsin the final version :slight_smile:
(but I need to be careful as the fps already is a little bit low at some places)

And nothing else!

Great! In fact it is a bit 'bare of details (as I wrote in news concerning exit the beta 6), but did I mention, reading the readme, your openness to suggestions and modifications! :wink:

So First of all Congrats. Getting a Map up and running deserves some credit. I think you noticed already that some details would advance the map. I’ m now mapping since some years and please don’t get me wrong but if you made a map in 18 weeks it means that you:

  • either are genious and worked on it 24/7
  • you created a tiny non-detailed ‘we need to blow something up’ map
  • or you should really consider going back and creat a map that catches indeed some attraction

Honestly, you can’t imagine how many times I created beautiful landscapes with tons of details to then later see that the gameplay doesn’t favor my wishfull thinking. I’m now busy on my one for more than a year and I really put at least 15h in per week.

As I said, no complain, you deserve some credit for sure…I have just seen so many maps coming and going

Its sounds like you wanna tell me that 18 weeks isnt enough?
And maps come and go, yes they do, people make a map at five sec and say: tadaa release!
And then nothing more happen…
Dingenskirchen b1 and raid b4 is the latest good maps we got + fueldump -Z

My comment to dingenskirchen is: looks like real, a really cool map :slight_smile: the only prob is the fps.

My comment to raid: really cool map, I can see the work behind it, a good map to put at the servers
raid got a genius lighting and its in the same class as dingenskirchen, but a high and stable fps rate -nice work magic, magic is magic :smiley:

My comment to fueldump-Z: a summer version of fueldump, everything is cool and so but its a little bit boring when mappers only copy others maps and make a new version, but nice to bring variation :slight_smile:

And then we got some maps where we can complain:

Norwegian battery, a choppy test from oVe (me) without details… But still a competition map, 100% offensive, no waiting, just do it (sw)

1944 nordwind, the tank slow down the offensive
gameplay but a aggresive feeling of sw is still
there, the maps gameplay is fantastic
but not super, but its better than all maps named here (but raid is only a millimeter away)(or yeh an atome away)
The problem with it is that the textures dont look that mouch real, also the windows should be break able
Make a terrain blended road instead of the current totally black one
Make tracks from weels, etc.

The shrine, ehm thunder have maded something very quick in radiant and its hard to recognise the feeling i did get from mia…
Better gameplay and more detailed houses pleace!

Then its some sniper maps…

back to my map:

Yeh this is maby a “we need to blow something up map”
But its impossible to make something other…
Should the allies construct a battery for the axis? -nope

And if youve tested it you maby noticed the
aggresive doc run part with the keycard?
-so youve not test it

Remember this is a competition map
Not a campaign.
Its mouch easier for allies to win than for axis
Thats also why there is no escort the truck part…
Becouse it delay
The map end exactly 50ms after the battery is destroyed, to avoid waiting like in braundorf

Even Mia was made way to fast Ove, I lack the thing called patience, but atleast I share ALL source. So if people like the Idea of the maps they got all the opportunity to do them better . And a chance for new mappers to have something to play around with.
My maps are not really worth mention at all. There are a lot of amazing mappers out there who works on theur maps for 2-3 years to get all those little details as lights, textures , the right props and so. All honour to them . But atleast I learn something new on every map I make. So they can only get better… :slight_smile:

  • Used original textures, Nordwind 2 was just supposed to be an enhanced version, focusing on improving the gameplay and fixing bugs (plus adding what was missing, like objective cameras).
  • Well, I’ve elevated the road with Radar in mind ^^’ Black?
  • Vehicles have the same behavior/look as the vanilla maps, what else?

Yep and the map is great, but the only prob is that the road is totally black…
Maby you should add light over it? Can maby help

Its very disturbing that the windows of the houses cant be destroyed…
Worth to think about.
But the map is otherwise really really good gameplaywise

And back to norwegian battery:

but, still… Its not with a false modesty I say that this is a test by me, and that african radar is mouch better… Becouse this map isnt so focused at a good look…
Its a good gameplay and a fun map with a lot of dirty trickjumps that I wanted to make :slight_smile:

@ove: giving me a bad reputation and saying I offended you is really telling me a lot about you. If you read my post carefully I think saying I offended you is really way overexxagerated. Criticism is not a lack of sympathy and dealing with criticism is something you either can or can not.

AND? what are you critic about, that the map was maded fast?

The reason why there are few props is becouse the maps leveling
Its impossible to fill the map with props and keep an okey fps rat

But for sure I can putmore props in it :slight_smile:

Example: I dont like your map becouse your map got many lighting windows, can you please place more windows where the lamp is off, i mean every room cant have the lamp turned on, make some black windows and bring a better atmophere

4bug report is allowed, its the reason why we got threads?

5then ofcourse is credits allowed or positive comments :slight_smile:

On first view this stable fps map reminds me of et_beach (which is still a popular map w/o tons of visible details :wink: ).

oveove, add speakers/speaker script file for the final release: ERROR: Can’t find sound/maps/norwegian_battery_b6.sps

Shouldn’t be an error this it isn’t required… Not even a warning. It only stores the sounds added through the Speaker Editor… If you don’t want to use it, no point in adding an empty file.
