[MAP] Minigames by the entire forum!

Hi all!

I’ve been away from mapping for a while (too much other games :frowning:
Anyway, I’ve got this idea for a ‘minigames’ map.

The idea would be to run it in ‘last man standing’ mode!

Every round, you spawn on a random spot, and you have to run for a certain location. The one who’s first, got to pick the minigame. Then everybody else is teleported in the correct location.

Everybody here on the forum who wants, can join in and make a mini-game!
Some mini-games to give you some inspiration :

Tickjump-game. You have to trickjump, and you are being chased by some bad-ass killing machine! So, you might only have 5 chances; if you don’t make it to the second level in time -> you are slayed, and have to wait for the next minigame! (the one who gets to the end first or the one who can stay away form the ‘machine’ the longest, wins)

Some examples:

– Just a knife arena (until one man/team is left)

– Rope-skipping (Jump over some spinning axe or knife, wich goes faster and faster --> again last man/team standing)

– You are standing on glass plates, you can shoot the glass plates or your enemies, so that they fall off,

– Random ‘bazooka’ firing at random points (some func_bobbing, combined with func_rotating and a random shot timer should give you a pretty random firing!)

– Water is rising! be the fasted going on the hill / track, or you’ll drown!

These are just examples! You can make some of these, or your own idea, but please post it here so I can put it here, that we don’t have doubles.

As I said, anybody can join, BUT!

-> Your idea must be realistic, fair and fun!
-> You have to post your idea here, before making it.
-> If your idea need scirpting, be sure to post here too. I’ll try to mix everything together, but that’s a whole lot easier if you guys don’t all use ‘accum 1’ in your scripts :slight_smile: (CORRECTION : in every block accum’s seem to be unique, so never mind this :))
-> Allies and Axis should be split (for instance with some glass in the middle) so that they won’t shoot eachother instead of doing there objective (trickjumping or whatever)
EDIT : --> I found another limitation! func_explosive! In ET, it’s limited to 255 per map I tought. So if anyone is making that ‘glass floor’ thing, or anybody else has something in mind with alot of func_explosive, please report it!
Current lineup :

Spawn :
-> If someone wants to make the spawn, where someone is randomly picked to choose the game, and knows a good way to later teleport all the ppl to the right place?!

Minigames :

Well i like the idea, I’m not so good mapper :’) Only doing editing on maps (Goldrush UV, still working on it :D) so I can’t help. But it would really be a cool thing to make :slight_smile:

It doesn’t matter matter because accums are used per scriptblock. Each scriptblock has it’s own accums. Globalaccum is obviously per script file, so you can’t use ‘globalaccum 1’ in different stuff simultaneously. And anyway there is a way to bybass every globalaccum.

Only down side to me is the scripting part.

One idea I would love to create:
A vertical big tube, with a lots of stairs which slowly disappear into the wall. The teams start at the bottom and need to run as fast as possible upstairs with ofcourse a few obstacles so it’s not boring. The ones which reach the top will go to the next level. The next level starts when all the players of both teams are at the top or didn’t make it. Every level has other obstacles and a shorter time to get to the bottom.

Do you accomplish with it?

PS: I guess you want me to create it in gtkradiant 1.5.0?

Hey we are here to help you, and some idea’s don’t need much scripting!

Well, I guess its a bit the same as raising water idea, trough here it are the walls that come closer instead of the water :smiley: Anyway, now you need a catchy name for it and you can start workign on it (how bout ‘RunnerUp!’) :stuck_out_tongue:

About the radiant verison : If you make it in 1.4, can’t I open it in 1.5 then? :O?

You can. But if the mapper was not very tidy, some brushes might get crazy or removed. 1.4 allows making invalid brushes (brush cleanup to get rid of), but 1.5 does not. Do brush cleanups frequently and snap to grid when needed and you’ll be fine.

That’s the advantage of ‘minigame’, it are all such small parts…! Anyway, I understand that your studies go ahead of mapping!

Somehow I’d think this would be many times easier to pull off with a custom mod and map instead of a complete vanilla W:ET map script…

I’ve changed the idea a bit. I made a big round room. the tube looks endless en the wall wont dissapear. There are 20 stairs and at every stair there are moving objects or other things you must pass. When the first is at the half of the tube the spawn will be set there. In the middle there is a small tube which all the losers get thrown in XD Every half 10 seconds the last loser get teleported to the begin or the half of the tube. The team who’s the first wins.

looking nice, though id like to see both, the round room and the normal discofloor. i would say blend both stages at end song 1 start song 2 and smoke the whole area. when smoke is full and nobody sees anything you can maybe script_mover the stages or even beam, though i would not recommend beaming. but i guess it doesnt fit in concept, caus 100% you planed sth else for the blending from song1 to song2 :infiltrator:

anyway. keep the tapirs running. hope to see this soon

little ‘bump’.

I had hoped on some more activity from the members here!
Anyway, I’ve decided to go make some rooms myself then – Here are some ‘screenshots’ form the knife room…
By using ‘overlighting’ (values of 5000 for lights) you get the strange ‘color blend’ effect.


Now all I need is the way to set g_knifeonly 1 in the script file (there was a way) If you want to play the map on a mod that doesn’t support knifeonly, then you can always use it as a deathmatch arena…

Also for the next minigame I got in mind, I want something like this :

You got a floor, consisting out of 20 ‘plates’. One plate is ‘green’, where you Gain HP and all the other plates are ‘red’, where you Loose HP. Then, I want that randomly another plate is turned green, so everybody has to run for the other plate, or dies trying :wink: (respawners get into a seperate box and need to wait untill the round is over, after 10 ‘plate swaps’ or something, the ‘surviving’ players get a better spot in a deathmatch zone.

Anyway, anybody got an idea how to do the ‘random plate’ stuff? :slight_smile:

the random plate stuff won’t be a big problem. Use a nice script and a target_relay and thick the box random.

I’ve a problem with a portal. The camera portal. The camera turnes 90 degrees without any key set.

that’s odd, trough I can’t really help you with it since I’m not an expert with camera’s… Anyway, try some other angles like 360°, you never know…

The problem with the camera is solved. I removed the info_notnull and everything works out fine. I’m thinking about a small frag level.
