You sure they are not one in the same? If you download the source code for RTCW 1.41 you get EVERYTHING you need to compile a standalone game (except punkbuster). I thought it was the artwork and sounds you had to license if you want to sell something based on RTCW.

You are incorrect about the wolf source. It is only the game code, not the enge. I’ve downloaded and compiled it myself, so I know.
Re implement JK2 in ET, it would not be easy but it would be possible. Some of the total conversions for q3 have changes that are just as drastic, and yes, they took a number of people a few years to develop. That shows you how much you can do, even without the engine code.
The difference is that for RTCW they said they were going to give it out right from start, whereas for ET, activision has stated that they will not.
