Map durations

(Anti) #1

This is part one of two quick forum polls I’d like to run.

A lot of you folks have mentioned you’d like to see shorter matches/less objectives, so in each case I’d like to get some idea what sort of duration/objective frequency you’d prefer.

This poll is for map durations.

How long would you like an Objective match, or half of a Stopwatch match, to be in minutes.

(Mustang) #2

12-18 minutes

i.e. 20min max time but balanced around 15min

(Seiniyta) #3

I feel like an average of 15 minutes is fine. Longer and I feel it outstays it’s welcome.

(iwound) #4

30+ a more leisurely pace epic game.
i specifically dont like the split times on obj because its rush rush. thats ok for sw but
no-ones in a hurry in obj.
when i play the sw games it feels so much more relaxed and enjoyable because of the open time.

i know im in a minority but its what i like. 20+ for current levels and 30+ for bigger maps.

(Winnie) #5

I vote for 20 min or less, but I think a map must be completed in 10 minutes maximum in the case of a dominant attack (rush), and 10 to 20 minutes depending if the defense is consistent.

(Kl3ppy) #6

Depends, if one team gets steamrolled, it should be between 8-10 mins, teams on the same lvl should take about 15 min, full hold maybe 20, but that should be max for a map.

(Dthy) #7

15-10 on balanced teams, 10 or less on steam roll.

(ImageOmega) #8

This should be the idea. That if a team completely outclasses the other team they should be able to complete the map in 5 minutes. Thus superficial slowdowns or an obscene amount of objectives would not be ideal.

(Rex) #9

Voted for “20 minutes or less”.

Guys please don’t mix this up with “the fastest time a team can set”.

I’m up with ImageOmega here for fastest time which can be set, should be around 5mins or even less.

(Protekt1) #10

20 or less for me. More than that and we’re talking potentially hour long sw matches.

(1-800-NOTHING) #11

seems a bit strange to me to have the same average round duration for OBJ and SW.

(Kendle) #12

Even 10 minutes a side in SW is stretching it, but I guess 15 minutes in general terms is the right mix between a map that isn’t over too quick on pubs and is playable in SW.

(Evil-Doer) #13

I chose 15 Minutes or less. Seems it would be really exciting if there were full holds, but if you have two superb teams that duke it out and manage to get 6-9 minutes it would get extremely exciting.

(chippy) #14

15 minutes or less, with an overtime of max 5 minutes I’d say.

(Hundopercent) #15

Target map completion time 12 - 15 mins. However, if one side completely outclasses the opposing team 5-7 mins is more than enough of an embarrassment (and boredom)

(BMXer) #16

20 minute maps were dreadful at times in past games. No single map should ever last longer than 15 minutes with balanced teams.

(Humate) #17

If you take a pool of teams, the avg map time across the pool, should be about half of the total map time - for stopwatch.
The top teams should average about 7ish vs the pool (on a 20 minute map); when the top teams get to play each other theres enough scope to set a time.

Another way of saying it, evenly skilled matches should be about 15 minutes.

(slanir) #18

about 15 minutes sounds good to me :stroggtapir:

(Dragonji) #19

As a pub player I’m all for something around 20 min.

(INF3RN0) #20

20 min MAXIMUM. Average completion rate in balanced games of 10mins. One-sided games less than 5mins.
