Map durations

15 mins or less for me. The way I see it, if you haven’t been able to win a round in 15 mins then you clearly should be full held. Best of 3 maps requires up to 6 rounds and if the last map is a draw it goes to a fourth! (meaning 2 more rounds) Lets keep this to 15 mins at the very most. I want to have a life away from gaming (Not really I just want to play more matches each night because I have no life)

10 - 12 mins but voted for 10, don’t want 15.

I said 20+ because I love long maps. I’m sick of all these other games with their a.d.d. tendencies with their 15 or less min maps. When its around 20, you really start to feel like you’re really getting into the game. You know those streaks where you’re in “the zone”, well I hate it when I’m in “the zone” and 5 min later the map is over. It also makes the satisfaction of winning all the greater since you’ve invested so much time into it. Some of my favorite ET maps were ones like MLB Daybreak which was like 30 min (not that I’m pushing for half hour matches). I just feel that longer matches keeps the game more fresh. However, the quantity of quality maps also greatly helps this.

about 15 is actually good;

18-20 max…

Never over 20!!!

(twincannon) #25

8~ min for a steamroll, 16~ min average, 20 min for a shutout/max timer feels good

(Ashog) #26

20 min or less, seems optimum to me.

(Pytox) #27

max 15 mins or less please, 20 mins is too long

(tokamak) #28

My sessions begin and end with loading screens. The reluctance of sitting through another boring-ass loading screen will be the best excuse to go do something else. The longer the map duration, the longer my playing sessions.

Conversely quick maps keep my attention as in advertising parlance they are ‘moreish’ - you complete one, next comes up and you think ‘it’s only another 10min’. Contrast that when you load up a map you know could go 30min - that definitely will make me think, ‘should i be doing something else?’.

As for the loading screens, it’s not as if we’re playing on 48k spectrums with a 5min loading time any more…

Voted 15 Minutes or less (and yes with pub in mind).

(RasteRayzeR) #31

20 minutes or less. otherwise it becomes too long to be tempted by a “quickie” when you just have enough time

(tokamak) #32

That’s exactly ‘as if’ to me.

(Seanza) #33

Voted 15 mins or less. Always felt 20 mins was too boring to hold and that 12 mins was sometimes too short. 15 is a good number, so even if it was 16 mins, I’d be fine with that.

Any “this poll is too premature” comments yet?

(BomBaKlaK) #34

for me 20 is the good number

(Violator) #35

20 or less (as a pubbler).

(Ruben0s) #36

It depends on the team size for me. I mean a server with 32v32 shouldn’t have maps running that only take 15 minutes.

As DB is going to be 8vs8, bleh :frowning: , I vote for 15 min maximum and steam roll should be around 2/3 min ( 1 min if it’s a doc run, but we don’t have a map like that in DB yet)

average playtime for balanced teams should be somewhere between 10-15 mins. If one team is clearly better 5 - 7 mins should be possible and if the defending team is clearly better 20 mins should be enough. If we make it 25 or even 30 mins it might get really frustrating for a team to struggle completing an objective when they dont have a big chance for winning the game anyway.

Yes I agree with this. This is why I have never played two full L4D campaigns back to back, I always end up thinking it will take too long.
