Hi all,

Got a weird problem thats started happening recently since I went to ADSL from cable.

I can play a map of ET fine, no lag or anything. Once the map changes, theres a 50/50 chance that I will get this when I spawn.

I can normally tell if this is gonna happen as I won’t see the map loading screen, I’ll sit at the end of round chat until I spawn like this. If I reconnect, I’ll get back in albeit losing my XP.

I’ve tried reinstalling Wolf, creating a new profile, altering heapsmeg, made sure my machine is in the DMZ settings of the router, tried turning down connection settings in Wolf, tried turning up connection settings, set autoupdate to 0, and made sure my PB is up to date manually.

Now I figure its gotta be related to my ADSL, when I was on cable I never had this problem.

Its driving me mad…any ideas?

System specs

AMD 2ghz XP
768mb RAM
Geforce 4 Ti4200
ADSL 512/128 running thru a DSL302G modem.

Thanks

I get a very similar problem to yours. When I pressed the tilde key, I was getting R_Remapshader failed (or something similar to that). Its pretty annoying when this happens after I’ve accumulated a lot of XP. I have DSL also, but I dont think thats the problem.

Not sure whats causing it,I can tell you I dont suffer from it though

I got this once, and digibob said “looks like you missed the new gamstate”.
My guess is that some critical UDP packed (that tells the client to switch map) was lost. Have you checked the lagometer for packet loss? Also try to find some way to test your network quality (e.g. at http://www.dslreports.com/tools).

Thanx for the info Sauron.

I’ve nailed it down to 2 map changes that will normally cause the problem.

Changing to Battery or Fuel Dump will definitely cause me a grey limbo of death.

Strange that the problem doesnt happen on other map changes.

I’ve set up the DMZ on my router modem to make sure my gaming PC is the default…so I’m really scratching my head now.

Yep I get the R_Remapshader in my console occasionally when the problem happens.

When I do spawn in space, I can still chat to players and stuff.

Try a /vid_restart when it happens, I’m not sure you won’t lose XP but at least it’s a bit quicker than restarting the game.

A workaround (sort of) would be to play on Shrub or ETPro servers that saves your XP if you have to reconnect.

Have u tried reinstalling the game again?

I do /vid_restart a lot while playing and it’s never caused me to lose any XP so you’d be safe in trying to do that, if you worry about losing XP. Sorry I can’t think of any other solutions besides trying a reinstall. Best of luck. :drink:

Thanks guys, I’ll try the /vid_restart command once the problem arises again.

THIS HAPPENED TO ME,
AND IT ONLY HAPPENED WHEN I INSTALLED THAT “BEACH” MAP (AND A FEW OTHERS, BUT IT HAPPENED 1ST ON BEACH AND THEN HAPPENED FROM THEN ON)

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS DELETE BEACH (WELL I DELETED A LOAD BUT I THINK IT WAS BEACH THAT CAUSED IT)

Well it worked for me… If it dosnt for you sorry for the big writting

AHA! I get this fucker too!

But when I get disconnected, my housemate who often plays on the server at the same time says console reported that I “lost reliable server commands”.

It is however not limited to this exact fault…the other day he got it too and in my console it simply said he had disconnected :frowning:

getting a bit peeved with it tbh and don’t know quite what to do, but IT HAPPENS MOST OFTEN WHEN CHANGING MAPS

         "Shit!"
