Server admin should be able to give manual XP bonuses to players. This is especially usefull when on a public server someone is doing all the work (like opening the back door to his team mates as an ally covert op), then you could reward him like 20 XP for letting them in. And you could give penalties to some stupid people, who are planting dynamites at ammo cabinets and defusing them(this was fixed in a mod I know.), or something like that.
Manual XP bonuses and penalties.
No, no no no no no!!
I could just see it, enter server, and some guy has 100000000 XP cause admin thought it was funny…
Or jackasses who think its funny to take away all your xp right before you get general or something.
Instead, maybe there should be some kind of option that allows the server to give you 10 XP every time you let in a teammate into a door, every 2 minutes, to limit abuse.
Its not like we have enough admin abuse already…
Well, yeah it would be abused, but they could just kick you just before you get general, and besides opening a side door is not the only example, I would like to reward capturing Radar parts/gold crate as covop or throwing a gas canister at enemy’s MG nest, or rewarding a medic for good game play (no shooting and healing for XP).
Everything can be abused, but that is not a good argument to ban everything.
That’s sounds like a server I would avoid anyway. Who wants to play with stupid admins?
I don’t like it. How many admins would be watching people to dish out the experience anyway… It does seem like the admin could very easily be very annoying with this.
I already have to quit out of half the servers I join because of freaking 6 map campaigns…
I think server admins would find this annoying when not only do they have to take time out of their playing time to kick abusive or disruptive players, but now have to listen to players whine about how they should get xp for something or how someone else should lose xp for something. Then you have players complaining that no one saw them do this really cool thing and they didn’t get xp for it. And other whining that someone didn’t do that cool of a thing but got xp anyway.
Basically, you’re taking all the general complaints of the xp system and dumping them on the admin’s lap. And then opening the door for admin abuse and general unhappiness.
Finally, allow me to point this out one more time. The xp system in no way evaluates your personal abilities or your contribution to your team. If you opened the door to let an engie in fueldump so he could plant, isn’t the knowledge that you were key to helping your team win enough? Now you want some kind of xp reward. And its not so you can get extra abilities since its the last map and doing this generally means your team will win in the next 40 seconds. So why have it?

Kicking and banning people has worked for IRC for many, many years. I fail to see why server admins for games need ridiculous things like freeze, slap, etc. If the person is disruptive, ban their ass. Nothing else is needed.
I dont understand this thread,u get rewarded if u play good as it is,just be happy to play the game as it is.
And stop being so concerned with XP ,the thrill of being part of a team what as worked together to complete the missions is a much higher reward than the XP and its this what the game is about not the XP.
I think we should start giving XP if people actually read the manual, instead of giving out manual XP…
I think I see “How do I call an airstrike?” like 50 times a day on pubs.
It would be nice to have something like Slap, since as an admin you often want something to get someone’s attention without it looking like you’re overreacting. Say someone on the axis team keeps pecking people at spawn. You could issue a verbal warning and maybe they’ll see it. Kicking them seems kinda excessive as a first action. But if you could give them a little slap, just to show that the admin is paying attention and that they should shape up. If they keep it up, you can then bring on the kick and ban commands. Just that this way you feel like you’ve given enough of a warning and can blow off their later rant on your forums. =)

Or perhaps the Admins could have the ability to remove XP from rude or distruptive players.
On our server on Jk2, slap is good for a minor punishment/getting someone to listen/getting someone to realize that you’re watching. Mute is nice if they are swearing and you have warned them, usually they will just leave anyways. Sleeping is good if you dont wanna necessarily ban/kick someone, but want them to have a little “time out”. Banning is good for those jackasses who change their name when entering your server for the third time you’ve kicked them.
Giving admins xp control is just a bad idea. People would be whining so much, it would make the game even less enjoyable if someone is being a jerk. Just ignore them, pretend that they aren’t there. If it gets so bad that it is ruining your game, then leave. Who wants to be on a server with non-stop jerks anyways.
As for getting XP for opening doors, im at the point where i say “who cares?” You win the game, isnt that the “objective” anyway? Isn’t getting skills there to aid you in completing the final objective? If you think about it, its kinda back-assward to give people skills for basically completing the final objective?

Hits the nail on the head. XP is a points system. No more, no less. If sometimes it appears that you get XP for doing the right thing for your team, the impression is entirely coincidental.
I fail to see how awarding or removing XP would make any difference. The people who care about their XP are not teamplayers, so how would “magnifying” the XP system make them more so?
Besides, as others have said, it would be a nightmare for server admins. I’ve just started adminning 2 ET servers, and it’s bad enough having to take time out from the game to deal with TK’ers and other lamers. I’m not about to go watching the game intently, and trying to cover every player on the server, to dish out XP here and there as I see fit, and then have to justify my decisions to everyone that disagrees with them.
