Mandatory Tutorial

The current tutorial is probably too generic to be all that effective on people who don’t already do it spontaneously. What the game needs is a short tutorial for each character as they get unlocked, teaching what that character can do and how, enforced before the character can be used in play. It could also have a game basics tutorial, mixing part of Tutorial and Assault Course into one, keeping just controls and movement, leaving out special skills and actions for each character tutorial instead.

I offered this idea before also but I still think all tutorials should be mandatory. Whether it be the basic tutorial, parkour tutorial or possibly merc tutorials. There’s just dumbasses that refuses to learn or read the game chat or listen to people on the voice chat and think they’re good enough for ranked.

@ClemClem7 I have nothing against incentives like you describe: play tutorial to unlock a golden case is a great idea. I’m very strongly against any forcing of players to do anything. It’d be like going to a restaurant and the waiter says they refuse to give you food unless you are willing to use chopsticks/cutlery, and not the other one.

@GatoCommodore If those farmers had infinite lives and were able to go through the battle over and over again, would those 5 min matter?

There is a limit to how meaningful you can make such analogies.

If the player wants to run like headless chicken on pub I can deal with it. But in ranked, you’re not just a bad player at the bottom of the scoreboard and nobody cares, you’re also a bad teammate for your team which can make so the game is bad for his team too.

And analogies are not that dumb. Even if the farmer has infinite lives and can go through the battle over and over, a little formation on how to use his weapons can be the difference between a defeat or a victory if the battle is not about number of warriors left, but about objectives on the battlefield.

I can understand people who don’t want to do it and play the game, but they shouldn’t be allowed in ranked. We don’t force them to do it, but it’s better.
You can play a merc in pub without doing the tutorial, but you need to do it if you want to play it in ranked.

You don’t go to a soup eating competition with chopsticks, even more if your run it with a team and they don’t want to loose.
But you can do it in a restaurant where the only way it matters is that it’ll take ages for you to eat it with your chopsticks.

Well the DB Website stating its “hyper competitive” yet all i see is TDM and clueless People who destroy Ranked.
So yea Tutorial should be forced, i’m fucking done with people who give up after 1 Attack in Ranked because they don’t give a shit about anything. If they don’t want to play the Tutorial don’t open up Ranked.

Hyper Competitive, gives me a laugh everytime…

competitive /=high skilled

competitive /=high skilled

please explain

(Szakalot) #48

sure

competitive: play to win mindset, high skill ceiling, skill-based gameplay, not ‘holding your hand’

high skill: excellent aim, game awareness, map/merc/weapon knowledge, efficient communication and quick calls

(kittz0r) #49

and where is the Mindset to win, to improve and all the other crap?

This is how Pubs are in 95% of the Time, people have no clue and skill is lower than a Potato, there is absolutely no Fun to play Rank or Public, because of no Challenge and the 1 Game in ranked you maybe get against stacked cobalt and Elites isn’t fun either.

So yea teach People how to play, how to walk straight, what objective is, the basic shit…

(Szakalot) #50

why are you playing on nonminlvl servers?

i do agree that the constant carry good players face is a problem, but i dont really see any solutions.

Maybe challenge yourself by taking a Medic in your Squad and helping yer teammates out instead of playing TDM or even unmute yer team so maybe you can hear their call outs for help and positioning etc.

Call outs in Pub?

Seriously, I’d love it if people actually called out in pubs. Though the usual response I see from others is “stfu”.

I know who we can pray to solve your problems guys.

Kazuh Al Mat’shma Hkher.
Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Kazuh Al Madshma Kher wgah’nagl fhtagn.
Many many fhtagn.

But yeah. Mandatory tutorial for ranked. Sounds nice. Low impact but better than nothing.

making the tutorial mandatory is USELESS, making it an exam might help

Make it a multiple choice, 45-minute mark

(Szakalot) #56

a fail deletes your steam account and fries your CPU

+1 force tut for newbies. cant join game until its done.

forcing players to do anything is a bad idea

plus, the thinking that everyone who went through tutorial will suddenly be a good player is a major myth.

people are bad teamplayers CAUSE THEY SUCK, and have tunnel vision, not because they are douchebags. Newbie skyhammer is too focused staring down the barrel ofM4 at a position they saw an enemy at two minutes ago, to notice anyone needing ammo

I wouldn’t force players to do it, but I would gate ranked and 30,000 credits behind it as incentive. If you’re good it takes you like 5 minutes tops, if you’re new you see the shiny and might learn some shit from it. Even if a player doesn’t actually take anything in SD at least tried.

Ultimately you can’t fix bad habits from new players in one small offline session.
