Making an ET map for First Timers

(Bigun) #61

Hi… I ran through the tutorial and noticed a few things for Linux users.

The script “qe3bsp.sh” has to be modified… it has the wrong executable listed… add a “.x86” to the end of it.

Now, onto the problem I can’t get solved. I got the map compiled… but when I run it I get this error:

CG_ParseSpawnVars: EOF without closing brace

:???:
Ooooo-kay… so I figured there was a unclosed brace somewhere… but when I “thought” I had fixed it and recompiled it… I got this error:

Map with no shaders

:eek3:

I would post the raw text of the map here… but I’m sure someone wouldn’t appreciate it, but any help would be of great assistance.

Your mapcoordsmins/mapcoordsmaxs have to be in a perfect square! An easy way to do this is to make sure all the numbers are the same except for the placement of the minus (-) symbol.

Mapcoordsmins -256 256
Mapcoordsmaxs 256 -256

Remember that the box created by the coords must cover your whole map, I hear there might be problems otherwise but haven’t yet found any.

Not true. Only thing that is must is that the coords must be is square.

@Bigun

I use my own .sh to point the q3map2 so I have not noticed this. Are that bash script for radiant?
I think you must use some textures in your map… I think I saw ealier the map code and you were using the notex -default shader. i think that it is not shader at all.

Yes, that is the default Radiant script they use. I’ll make a mental note to use my own from now on.

So, what would I do to fix this? And shouldn’t this be included in the tutorial?

Oh yeah, just so this thread isn’t filled with just this problem, reference and reply to this thread where I have my script and my “.map” listed:

i made my boxmap, and i think it adds up to a perfect square…

i get this error
“SP_worldspawn the first entiety isnt worldspawn”

whats it mean?

(Loffy) #66

ETn00b, welcome to the forum.
This question (worldspawn is not first entity) has been discussed here:

Good luck!

i got an error when i tried to run my boxmap in ET, i typed in everything listed, but ET froze at awaiting connection … 0, any tips?

(JohnnyD) #68

I use a script when testing my maps that has the following(and i’m sure you can find these commands somewhere on this board)

/sv_pure 0
/g_gametype 2

That should allow you to run your map.

(Chruker) #69

ET freezing on map load could also be caused by having to many pk3s in the etmain directory. 60+ can cause problems.

(neko) #70

I too got everything working to where I could “fly” around the room, but when I hit “L” it froze. I struggled for half a day, resulting in a screaming headache.

Gave it a fresh, new look this morning. Turns out I had entered “mapcoordsmin” and “mapcoordsmax” instead of “mapcoordsmins” and “mapcoordsmaxs.”

So lesson learned - check and doublecheck your spelling.

Boy do I need a :drink: !

(Zeptera) #71

:???: iam a newbie and a norwegian so ist hard for me too understand the “compiling” part beacuse you didnt say anything abaut saving your finished .BSP file in the ETMAIN folder! so that and mapcoordsmins confused me…apart from that this is a great tutorial

(Zeptera) #72

ok i found it out…but i still need helpl… when i start my map now it loads and then when its finished loading it crashes and windows says:sorry but ET.exe has to be closed.

can anyone help me plz?

(Zeptera) #73

hi, ok i fixed that problem too…but now it says: “Cant find spawn ponit” even though i have set the: team_CTF_Redspawn and team_CTF_bluespawn :???: :???: :???:

this is my second day in mapping…

if you could help me it would be fine

(Loffy) #74

Heja Norge!
Have you put a yellow box, near the team_ctf_redspawn? And made it Axis? (And the same for allies.)
Yellow box = team_WOLF_objective
// Loffy

PS. Can you please list all the entities that you have, so we can help you.

(nUllSkillZ) #75

Take a look at your other post:

(ViciousEthos) #76

I think I’m having the same problem as our Norwegian friend here. I’ve followed the tutorial word for word, couldn’t get into limbo for a while so I fixed the map’s coords, but once I try to spawn on a team, it comes up with Can’t find spawn point. For a while I had team obj, but I didn’t know how to designate them axis or allies; but this shouldn’t really matter right? What’s wrong with the spawn points?

(Siemnov) #77

It’s imporant to set the spawnpoints flags correctly. All spawns should have both flags checked if you want a team to spawn there.

(nUllSkillZ) #78

You should take a look at the forum thread linked two posts above:
http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&p=99767#99767

(L4suicide) #79

You need some sort of objective to get into limbo, thats the only way i seem to be able to go into limbo - stick in a misc_model_mg

even with map coords you cant get into limbo unless one of the teams has something to do i think…

(Siemnov) #80

That would be completely false, because many people, including myself, have managed to get into limbo just fine without any type of objective.
