Making an ET map for First Timers

Just wrote this in about an hour… probably has spelling errors, grammar, etc… but the basics are there.

No pics yet or anything, but those will come when I have more time. Thought this would be useful for people who have never mapped for q3 based games.

You forgot one thing.

You need one “team_WOLF_objective” for each team.

(Drakir) #4

You actually dont NEED it to get into your map and run around.

True… it’s not required to run around in a box… although you’d want one (or more) for more complicated maps…

(blacknirvana) #6

hmmm…

I followed you tutorial, but when i try to run it in ET it’s comes with the message:

“Can’t locate boxmap.bsp” - or something like that

I checked that boxmap.bsp were created in the etmain/maps folder and it is… any idea why it says that then?

Hummer Darling

I did a rubish little guide for the map co-ordinates here http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~rich48/ettutorial.html

As some peeps didnt know exactly how to do it. I used that leet program “notepad” so it looks very bad, also did it in 10 mins, but it has helped some peeps out. I will tidy it up tomorrow though, but it is still usefull if you want someone to hold your hand if you want the command map to work

(blacknirvana) #8

solved the problem!

Wrote
/sv_pure

instead og

/sv_pure 0 :banghead:

W00t!
it worked
thanks Hummer :o)

True… it’s not required to run around in a box

Actually I found to be able to join a team and run around you needed the “team_WOLF_objective” for each spawn point. You don’t need it if all you are going to do is fly around the map in Limbo mode.

Without it you freeze as soon as you try to join a team.

(blacknirvana) #11

I don’t use and I can run around just fine…

(blackadder) #12

Hummer… Followed the instructions to the letter but when i try to run boxmap i get the error: “Map with no shades”

Any ideas what i did wrong?

(Grimmy_EFG) #13

I had already made my basic room, which works fine in spec mode. So I tried adding the mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs. But et crashes when it first tries to load the map. If I delete the keys it works ok, but can’t open limbo as expected.

I’m pretty sure the coords are correct, and i’ve tried both hummer and colics methods… any suggestions?

ok, when i try to compile boxmap, it freezes and becomes “not responding”. Did i do something wrong, how can i fix this?

(Slippery Jim) #15

I don’t use and I can run around just fine…

Well the ET documents seem to back me up :stuck_out_tongue:

(IX) #16

 No you just do as stated above /g_gametype
/sv_pure 0
/devmap “mymap”
…but you do need the coordsmins and maxs…and you can run around in the game as either side you’d like , but this is only for you and not for playing with others within your map…

ps… i decided not to leave for the remarks of one person… that was silly of me and to all of you great people i am truly sorry :twak:

My bad… I’d put comma’s in the coords, instead of spaces. v583.

You just need to be thick skinned with online forums and not over react to anyone’s comments. Glad to hear you changed your mind.

Hummer the new pics on your Indiana Jones site are too bright. You mentioned you adjusted the gamma but you went too far. Your original brightness was fine.

:bump: Besides, perfect opportunity to bring this thread to top again.
