Make the extra ammo clip an ammo crate/station feature

I noticed in the last dev video it had in the bug fixes that they were removing the extra clip given by ammo crates and stations.

I mean we knew it was a bug, but am I the only one who likes this? I always felt ammo stations had little purpose in Dirty Bomb compared to ammo packs and I always struggled to think of ways to give them more purpose.

Personally I think the extra clip of ammo would make for a nice permanent feature. I often find myself going for stations and crates now if I have time to get extra ammo, and packs if I just need any amount of ammo quickly. Before they gave an extra clip I just felt there was no reason to use them if there were packs lying around and I’ll probably quickly stop using them again once the bug is removed.

Thoughts?

Yeah i kinda liked it too, even tho it was a bug, it was better than being a normal ammo station, it actually feels useful

I like it too, but then again what are they gonna do with the augment Spares? Nobody really needs 2 extra clips (spares + ammostation’d extra) that much, so something else should be done with that. Otherwise we have yet another trash / sub-par augment.

@bontsa spares can be nice on offense if you cant afford an ammo giver, and spawn is obvioualy too far to /kill.

Exactly this @bontsa. IMO it’s just better again with spares. Especially when you’re playing Fragger with the M4. It’s nice to top up your ammo first and then run off into the distance knowing you’ve got enough ammo for 2-3 spawn waves without having to break position and fall back.

Heh, I might be just too busy trying to keep the dying potatoes alive to really suffer from ammo deficency then :smiley: Good points @Dox , @Szakalot and the gang.

For @FrostyVampire though no, imho exactly other way round should be the case; ammo station gives extra mag and crates don’t, or both do. Otherwise we’re in exactly the same situation as now; station being highly inferior to packs. Getting extra ammo still does not always top the versatility of packs that can be thrown to places otherwise hard to reach without repositioning, and their greatly shorter cooldown. Stations get wrecked easily by air strikes and such, leaving no ammo supply for a good dozens of seconds in worst case scenario.

E: Not to even mention the direct hit cooldown reduction which is the “extra” that ammo packs provide. Why not having something nice going on for a station too?

This ‘bug’ is a compensation for stupid skyhammers and artys. As long as we can see those noobs throwing ammo only for them (best scenario), this it’s not a bug, it’s a feature!

I’ve seen once in Market two(!) skyhammers resuplying themselves from an ammo crate. One of them holding an ammo pack in hands!

Care to explain?

Packs give their ammo instant, you can throw them high up over balconies to team mates holding high ground or people in the distance. Packs also can’t be destroyed and have a very short cool down. You can also leave packs in different places for team mates to pick up when they need them which is pretty handy for defense when you are holding set positions.

I’m not entirely sure how 1 extra clip makes them “way better”.

If you want to get ammo from an ammo station, you have to break position, find the station and stand on it for a good 5 seconds or so, and then make your way back to the position. I almost never touched them when they gave the same amount of ammo as a pack, so I really feel they need something extra.

It depends. Stations are obviously the better choice on defence. Where people stay in one point. But packs are much more mobile if on attack. You don’t have the time to run back or stay in one spot to load up your ammo on a stationary deployer.

yup, stations also have a bit of added utility in blocking doorways, protecting hp stations, hell; you can even survive a point-blank frag if you manage to duck right behind the station.

This, and stations being awesome on PUBS, where an average arty/sky cannot ever be hoped to notice people need ammo, while kira and stoker put it down for themselves and forget about it, allowing other players to enjoy full ammo goodness.

Eh, agree to disagree on the defense thing I guess. There’s certain maps like Chapel and Terminal where I find packs way better for defense, especially if you have team mates holding down choke points on different sides of the objective. Like on Terminal when your team mates go for office MG, one has done the sneaky jump to the left side balcony (typical redeye strat) and some are flanking the left side building trying to close the gen etc. If you just had a station in the middle of the map it would mean the majority of the team are going to have to break position to get ammo which is a giant pain in the butt imo.

I mean yeah certain places stations have their purpose, like Bridge defense where everyone sets up by the EV and what not, it’s always nice to see a station crammed right next to the aura station in the normal spot so everyone can stock up on ammo when they heal, but eh. For me it’s just too situational.

I just think packs are too versatile compared to stations, so I think they should give something extra.

Even on bridge first ammo packs are usually better, otherwise at least 1-2 persons need to go from redvan/alley to the station.
