I have very much enjoyed this bug since it went “live”. I never made an effort to run to the ammo stations previously as the ammo packs were so much better and gave instant ammo, while the stations required me to hang out for a few seconds. If they take away the extra clip, I think they need to add something else to the stations to make them more viable over the packs.

I don’t it’s so much Stations are better for defense as Stations seem to be better for stationary positioning in my opinion.
Whether offense or Defense if you have players collecting in one area and they don’t have to move much I think the station serves better for that purpose. it allows all players to get ammo and beside the initial drop no player needs to stop firing to pass out ammo. Plus there is really no chance you might pass ammo to the wrong person either. Well unless your opponents get to it.
If you need more mobile positioning or have more random actions from players, I feel the packs are better.
Packs can be thrown all over the place and can be placed on the ground to be picked up later. They can also give ammo right then and there which is excellent if you right in the thick of it or need to keep moving.
I think in the end it depends on the play styles and how the team functions together.
