Go here and vote for ET :notworthy:
Make a Difference
Yet another chance for me to say how badly we need WolfTV for ET. :blah:
I’d prefer RtCW as it is, since I’m not going there myself…
pimped
Voted RTCW tho
Much more competetive than ET… especially because they’ll need to use ETMain which would suck at that big a lan…
Agreed.
I really don’t consider Enemy Territory as a good game for tournament competition. ET is more likely to be a game for public servers.
Large maps in ET slows the engaging pace. Some classes that requires flanking (MG42 and mortar) would be of little applicability in competition with team size limited to 6~8. Sniper is weakened: reduced damage, and targets could gain more HP with level-up benefits. Without sufficient number of players, ET is not so much fun to play.
Played our first scrim last night using the new Clanbase (Euro) settings (see here for details) and it f*ckin rocks!!!
Limited XP, limited mines, and the Tank and Truck have been fitted with new V8 turbo-charged engines. Reduced spam, more open gameplay, faster, Stopwatch times getting set, fewer full holds, best fun I’ve had in ages.
ET definately can make it as a Clan game, but not the way it comes “out of the box”. It needs quite a few fixes, and the ETPro mod of course, plus ET-TV would really make it worthwhile. I voted ET in the poll linked above, but only on the basis that I don’t want COD and I doubt there will be enough (any?) Clans playing RTCW by the time QuakeCon2004 gets here.
Clanbase have introduced a set of changes that will hopefully make Stopwatch ET competition fairer (by trying to ensure fewer full holds).
The full details can be found on Clanbase BY CLICKING THIS LINK, but as far as XP is concerned, the following ETPro settings will be used:-
b_levels_battlesense “20 90 140”
b_levels_engineer “20 90 140”
b_levels_medic “20 90 140”
b_levels_fieldops “20 140”
b_levels_lightweapons “20 90 140”
b_levels_soldier “140”
b_levels_covertops “20 90 140”
What this means is that for most Classes to get to LVL2 requires as much XP as LVL3 does normally, to get to LVL3 requires as much XP as LVL4 does normally, and LVL4 isn’t attainable at all.
For Field-Ops it’s slightly amended in that a LVL4 score is required to get to LVL2 and LVL3 and LVL4 are not attainable at all.
For Soldiers it’s also slightly amended in that a LVL4 score is required to get to LVL1 and LVL2, LVL3 and LVL4 are all not attainable.
This reduces Field-Ops ability to spam Arty, and Panzers to be used like SMG’s!! It works a treat too. Teams now have to use tactics and skill to defend, not spam choke points continously with mass damage weapons.
Bit overly adjusted imo… never seen anyone use a panzer like a SMG
- I actually find it slower than what I wish it was… and I play hell of alot of Panzer defense in choke points/open areas. I mean, you can see yourself how effective it is, and im sure you also know, but maybe not realised, that once the panzer IS fired… a single miss means basically the Soldiers fucked. Even worse is taking away fully the possibilty of Level 2+. Cba explaining atm cos im heading home… maybe later.
The Field Ops thing I can understand… nice to see Level 1 kept tho, thankfully can still give out Mega Ammo…
Also, this WILL make it truely unfair for any Average Skilled Clans and below when they come against Higher, More Exp’d clans… again, im sure you know the difference between the Teamplay/Aim/Skill of any ‘pr0gaming/management/sponsored’ clan and your average Joe Bloggs clan itll just lead to a mass SMG slaughter to them… means Clanbase is now the Unfairest League about imo. More when we try it tbh…
LOL, Piggy, I was joking. It’s called sarcasm. Lowest form of wit I know, but the point is a LVL3/4 Panzer is quite a bit more capable than a LVL1 Panzer.
Er, Piggy, I can only assume you were on something when you wrote that. In what way is the better team winning NOT fair? Of course the team with better tactics / aim / teamwork should win, that’s the whole point of competition isn’t it?
The problem with ET “out of the box” is that a) the maps are biased towards defense (most of them) and b) XP favours the defending team as they accrue it faster. There are plans to fix some of the more overtly biased maps (making the ramp dynamite only on Battery (already implemented in TWL) and adding an Allied Command Post in the Garage on Fueldump) and the new Clanbase XP settings take care of the XP bias problems.
These settings, whilst not perfect, do go some way to ensuring the better team wins, as opposed to average teams being able to hold better teams to a draw, as currently happens. I fail to see how that could even remotely be seen as a “bad thing” for competition.
hmmm panzer = more like rifle grande than smg lol but I know what you mean when you get to level 4 and also got level 4 as engineer you can fire them out like …(insert something here)
I see another 2 of my posts either were deleted or didnt post cos of the stupid Login bug. As I said elsewhere, wanna talk about this matter Kendle… grab me by Email or IRC.

I don’t think XP system is good for competition. I’ve seen some guys play certain tricks, which I would consider them as dirty moves:
- always press /kill when they feel they are being fragged by incoming enemies, prevent their enemies get XP by any frag count.
- when they feel enemy’s defence too tough, they gather at their respawn point, shoot each others and give away medic packs, gain their First Aid XP. After that, 4~5 Lv4 medics inject themselves adrenalines, then they “break through enemy defences”.
So, if I am willing to participate in a clan competition, I would persist that XP system must be turned off.
Now I have 3 ET servers running now. One of them is a Stopwatch one, on which I set the fixed skill levels via ET Pro’s function:
seta b_defaultskills “3 1 2 1 3 0 3”
seta b_noskillupgrades 1
That is, Light Weapon Lv3, Field Op Lv1, Medic Lv2, Engineer Lv1, Covert Op Lv3, Heavy Weapon Lv0, Battle Sense Lv3.
I’d prefer the XP system switched off completely as well (and we do have an xp-whoring tactic whereby we shoot each other and dish out med packs, as well as firing into the ground to waste bullets so as to collect more ammo packs from Field-Ops etc. (although you can only do these things in quiet moments and don’t often get the chance)).
But the XP system was left in place, albeit limited, due to pressure from the “dare to touch ET in anyway and it instantly becomes RTCW” brigade. :banghead:
And yeah, post the IP of that server. If it’s a Euro server I’ll give it a look.
Hmm sounds very good. Can you post the ip?[/quote]
This server is located at Taiwan… I think the ping won’t be good for most people here.
BirdNest ET Stopwatch (will be renamed as BirdNest Arena when clan competition in progress)
IP: 203.204.205.72:27960
However, this server usually empty, because common players prefer XP system more. (And I suppose, XP gaining provides players more satisfication to pursue themselves staying in the game)
Yes, XP system makes ET a whole different, new game than RtCW. So I do agree with your policy toward XP system: allowing players to gain appropriate skill levels with reasonable XP gap. It keeps the essential of ET, and makes it more suitable for clan games.
